New tool bag from occidental leather

Thanks for the review and for the humour Kreg.

I like the bag but I can't see anything about it that would justify me replacing my systainer 5 with purpose-built nested tool trays.

That's a nice bag, but wow that is expensive. What made you go with it over the veto bags?

I'm all for a) being organized and b) buying quality products, but $465 for a tool bag is a bit extreme. There's nothing unique enough about, IMO, to make it worth anywhere near that much.

Bet that sucker is heavy [eek] [eek]. I ve moved to 2 smaller tool bags as all your tools in one bag is just bad back waiting to happen [big grin] [big grin]

Holy guacamole, for 465 bucks that thing'd better walk to the jobsite by itself.  [blink]

I guess that old saying is true.

You mean the one about a sucker being born every minute?   ;)

I was thinking more along the lines of something to do with a fool and his money.

Yeah, I guess they both apply......lol

Furniture from Ikea is servicable, fortunately for me, and many others on this site, people are willing to pay extra for something well made that does the job as well.
It is about the appreciation of something well made.
Do you call your customers fools?

Thanks for sharing, Kreg, I dont often comment on here, but I enjoy all of your videos, and it"s great that someone who obviously enjoys his work takes the time to post.

Yes, paying "extra" for something well made makes sense- paying 5 times the cost of a similar bag is a bit much.  Paying more for custom cabinets vs Ikea cabinets gets you cabinets sized specifically to your needs, in the materials and finish of your choice.  If this bag had some gold plating, or offered some customization to suit your needs I could see the high cost- a leather bag with a bunch of zippers and pockets just doesn't justify the price tag- sorry.

It's not even all leather.  As much as I hate the weight of my Veto's, I will stick with them, plus I can buy 4 of them for the price of the Occi.

This bag is USA made and it weights 15#. Empty. And 40# as loaded now  I had a job last Monday that the labor bill was $450.00. So I worked one day and nave a tool Bag for life not a bad exchange

And this bag keeps all your speciality carpentry tools all in one place  Veto bags are also very good I have 4  and 3 i dont use anymore as i do not like the zipper ones ,  so there price is a lot less but they are also made in china and do not have the added leather etc.

But I knew you guys would have fun watching and bitching about the price !  And I agree it's not  a bag for everyone's taste and price range.

Looks like a canvas (or Denier or whatever) bag with some leather trim.

If it was all leather, maybe than it'd be worth it's cost, but it's only leather trimmed.

I own several Festool products, but considering what some of them cost, I'm sure many feel that the lines quoted above could easily apply to many Festool owners.

some people think the high cost of a product makes it better then most others that are a 1/4 of the price. And will justify the cost anyhow they see fit in their mind. i don\'t see the need to waste an entire days pay on a tool bag,

i met a mercedes salesman one time and he told me the real cost difference between their upper class models and the cheaper models was really only like 10 grand. But he said because a certain type of person would not be seen with the cheaper model they were able to mark it up almost 50 grand

It (I) would be interesting to show/see the real differences/comparison (how you use it) between the Veto bag and the new bag. Why don't you like the zippers on the Veto bag for instance? I know Gary Katz did a bit of a comparison re: weight differences.
I know I know, no good deed goes unpunished  [big grin].
For the record I use the Festool tool box, and like it and often get positive feedback from my clients on it.
It would be interesting to walk in with this bag and see what the reaction would be. Any comments from your clients yet on this bag?

Hey Chaps

CHILL OUT. [big grin]

If this is how Kreg wants to spend the money, HE has worked for ,that's up to him.

I thought you guys lived in "the Land of the Free" and that includes FREEDOM to spend his hard earned money the way he likes.

WHO are we to CRITISE we all buy FESTOOL!!

I can do my job with lesser quality tools , but I like the feeling and quality of Festool!

I personally could not justify the expense but I wont call any one a FOOL for this!

An old Antique dealer friend of mine calls it "The Price of Ostentation"

If he stuck an old piece of furniture in the showroom for £50 it would probably never sell, but if he put it in for £500 he would be beating punters off with a muddy stick! Some think that if it is expensive it is worth while buying.

Festools are expensive but quality, service, etc make them a worthwhile investment.

I have gone a different route and my tiling kit is in a Sys4, site chisels in a Sys1, pliers, snips & electrical kit in a Sys1, etc, etc,

It is organised and works for me. The Occidental Tool Bag does look good but a hell of a price and it wouldn't suit my "system".

That is not to say it wont suit others and if they want to spend their hard earnt bucks on it, then so be it.

I still have a tool bag but it contains my paperwork, sandwich box and flask.
