Hey peeps ive just purchased a ts55r this is my first festool and hopefully more to come i just have a question regarding the guide rail when i plunge the saw down i notice the blade catches the plastic strip running parrallel with the rail is this normal or will the blade cut it, this may sound like a silly question but this is my first plunge saw and i didnt want to just plunge it down with causing damage

Thanks in advance
Tom [smile]

Hi Tom and welcome to the FOG!  The saw is supposed to cut the clear plastic strip on the rail, that way it makes the rail perfectly zeroed to your saw.

brice thank you ever so much thats helped me loads much appreciated i cart wait to play with it now! [big grin]

Hi Barney,

Welcome to the FOG!  [smile]

You can find some excellent supplemental manuals  here

There isn't one for the TS55 R  but the TS55 EQ manual will still have lots of useful info.

Does anyone know when the ts55r is going to be available in the the U.S.?  I am in the market for the ts55 and I guess I would prefer to wait  for the ts55r if it's not going to be too long for it to be available here.

One of the topics in this section is all about North America ETA for newish Festool products.

Shane shows 2013 for the TS55 R.

Just pick up a second hand TS55 now for half price and get the hang of this kind of a saw and enjoy it for a year and then you are a lot better prepared to weigh the usefulness and value to your line of woodworking of the couple of added R-features.

If you were in the EU I would still recommend picking up one of the old TS55 throw-out kits (double 1400 rail + assesory systainer for 400-450€ depending on dealer).

I bought a TS55 last Christmas and couldn't be a happier camper with it.

hi barney uk, as others have said it's normal to cut the plastic strip, just watch out on putting the saw on the rail  or you will end up cutting  into the guide rail, good luck  i bet this will not be your only festool purchase , i have the ts 55 55r and the 75 great saws .

I have to rip down a 44m thick firedoor later will the saw do that in 1 hit or am I better off doing 2 depth passes im unsure if its to much thickness in 1 pass.

Many thanks

Yes, I think 44m (!) may to be much for a 55mm saw!

I'd go for two passes and then shift it over by 0.5mm for a single clean-up pass.

BARNEY TRY THE PANTHER BLADE THE 55 IS DESIGNED TO CUT TO IT'S MAX AND IT WILL GIVE IT A CLEAN CUT IN ONE YOU WILL BE SURPRISED AT THE RESULT, GREEN .
