Does it really have more power or is the new power and battery life due to the 1.8mm blades vs the 2.2 mm blades ?

The TSC 55 KEB vs. the TSC 55 REB?

Or the TSC 55 KEB vs. the corded TS 55 REQ?

The KEB vs. the older TSC shouldn't be any different, except for the blade thickness - it's all the result of the thinner blade removing less material.

Both cordless saws seem to offer more power than the corded version.

Gotcha. I’m almost positive it’s only the blade, then. No actual power or efficiency differences in the motor.

The part numbers are different for the motors between the KEB and REB, but that doesn't mean that the motor internals are necessarily any different (all models of TSC-55 REB share the same motor). It could be the shaft and arbor on the motor is modified between the two models to allow it to hold the different width blade or fit in the machine slightly differently, maybe different windings to control the blade brake, along with a modified housing to prevent cross-fitting the motors between the saws.  The electronics package is also different, which makes sense to incorporate the anti-kickback.

To my knowledge, which squall_line nicely summed up, it appears that the only difference is the blade thickness. I do know that the HKC with the 1.8 mm kerf blade and a single battery ripped aromatic cedar easier/better than the TSC with the 2.2 mm blade and 2 batteries.
I've documented that in previous posts.

So from my perspective, this reduction in saw blade kerf is a big deal for increasing ripping power, battery life and reducing the frequency of changing dust bags.

My track saw stable has now been simply reduced to a corded Mafell MT 55 and a cordless Festool TSC KEB...both using 1.8 mm kerf blades and both having electronic riving knives. Every blade is now interchangeable. [smile]
