New Vac-Sys Clamping system for 2020?

I spoke to a vendor today about ordering the Festool vac-sys clamping system and they hinted that there may be an upgrade coming April 1st. They suggested I wait to see before I ordered.  Anyone heard anything regarding this?  I think they were confused about the vac-sys versus new vacuums (dust extractors).  But I just wanted to see if anyone has any intel that there may be an upgrade to the clamping system in the works.

Perhaps a new plate adapter for the new mobile sawing table in a kit.  [eek]

More cups, more flexible hoses, hand detend instead of the pedal?

Interesting list of upgrades/needs... [big grin]

I think I have my answer based on only one response with 325 views  [big grin] and my following of 2020 upgrade/new tool threads, it sounds like the vac-sys will remain the same for now....so the question is, should I order the basic set or the set with 2 clamping units...[unsure]

Advice welcome...

I think it comes down to what you normally work with. I have the single set up. While I love it. There have only been a handful of times I wished I’d have the second. I don’t do a lot of cabinetry or large projects though.

It really depends upon what you do. I've used a single cup on 8" wide stock up to about 8' long. The nice thing about using a single cup is the rotate function. Doors or long cabinet tops would require 2 cups.

The thing is pretty bomb proof, I've never heard anyone have an issue or complain about it except for the cost of the MFT adapter.

Here's a shot of a single cup being used on a 48" x 30" ply cabinet side. First used to place Dominos in the edge and then used with the rotate function to sand the top surface.

Thanks for good insights. I was thinking one would be adequate for my needs (primarily cabinets, vanities and some bulit-in shelving/cabinets...dominos, edgebanding, sanding, possibly glue up); but I wondered about the need for 2 units though as some of those projects can get fairly tall/long. The photos were helpful [member=44099]Cheese[/member] allaying that concern. Thank you.  I saw some reviews demonstrating that one could hold a larger (8') board but holding it and working on it are two different things  [smile].  Very helpful.

Plus its only a $40 difference if I need a second at some point down the road. So I think I'll go with one.  Any thoughts on the usefulness of the smaller heads?  I expect I'll need one of the smaller ones but not sure the set of 3 is needed.  Need would be dominoing and/or sanding smaller boards.  I don't see using this for holding/making stiles and rails for cabinet doors, am I wrong?  Though, I guess if I dominoed them instead of routed tongue and groove....

Small cups are for narrow pieces. If you always work with bigger boards then 8" x 8", the large cup is all you need. But if you work with narrow pieces you may look at the smaller cups.

I first bought the single unit. A few months later I had need for the second unit. Found the system just too good, so I bought all the missing cups  [big grin]

Like Mario, I also purchased the optional cups. They've come in real handy, I've used all the sizes so far.

I only purchased 1 head but it's just a matter of time before I purchase the 2nd head since they've been reduced in price.  [smile]

Festool USA has not communicated any changes coming for the Vac-Sys. In fact, the prices are going up on April 1st, so I would recommend that you order before then.

If there was a change coming, we would have likely already seen it in Europe.

[member=30413]mike_aa[/member] thanks for the mount link.

[member=48572]Shane Holland[/member] thanks for weighing on no upgrades to the vac-sys.  Appreciate that. On price increase it looks like only the pump is set to increase.  Kits are staying the same it looks like...or will the pump increase be passed on to the kits too?  Did I miss something on your web page?

I'm now leaning the one head set with the optional cups....

What did I miss?

The 201065 unit was originally $565, then about 12-18 months ago the price dropped to $425. At that point the optional 2nd head went from #1 on my list to #5.  [big grin]

Apologies, it's just the pump going up in price. I remembered seeing all of the Vac-Sys items on the price increase spreadsheet from FUSA, but it included items that weren't going up.

I have the full set. There are times 2 heads are necessary in my work.

Another thing to keep in mind is you can make a spoil board and risers to hold odd items. The spoil board is simply a piece larger than the head with [a] hole(s) drilled in it. Place the spoil board on the cup, set the next -icee on the spoil board. Risers are simply spacers with holes in them.

One of the top tools Festool makes.

Darn, darn, darn (translated from the original language). After reading this and linked posts, I am heading off to buy a Vac-Sys. So much for no-new-tools-2020.

Hahahaha! That's why I need to stop reading these posts!  [eek]

Oh yea! I have been trying to figure out a useful clamping system to use as I don’t have room for a real work bench. Then this darn thread started up! It really seems the vac-sys is ideal. And like jjowen I planned no purchases this year.

I bought the 2 head set with the extra cups. I'm really glad I did. I also made the mounting boards that are linked on here. I have both on the front of my MFT and off the end of my CMS-VL. Makes for a very nice little work station.
