Is there any difference in the motors ? Are all the power gains due to the thinner blades ? are you you afraid to answer because all current owners of the tsc 55 will just modify the riving knife or remove it if the new saw has no actual power gain ?

It has been posted a number of times before that the thinner kerf of the blade is the main difference between the old and new saws, especially with regards to cutting speed.
Modifying the original saw to narrow its riving knife or remove the riving knife altogether are things that would either void the warranty and/or void any liability claims, depending on which country it was done, and even if it was safe to consider, Festool would never in their right mind tell people that either of those things were okay to do.
Those things were both discussed numerous times before the new thinner-kerf saws were released, mainly because the HK/HKC55 use the thinner kerf blades and some people wanted to be able to interchange them before the new thinner-kerf TSC came out.

I don't know that there is a difference in the motors between the two saws...I personally doubt it but that's just a guess. I've read that it's a function of the new thinner kerf blades along with a different tooth geometry in the new blades.
I'd not advise removing the riving knife in the older saws, a better solution would be to reduce the thickness of the riving knife to better match the thickness of the newer blade.
Better yet, if that's an important feature to you...just purchase the new saw and put the older one down the road. You will probably be able to recoup 80% of your original purchase price and then no one will be afraid to answer questions. [smile]
