New walnut addition to the stack

A more appropriate title might be my sawyer loves me because I keep buying stuff that nobody else will buy.  [big grin]

Picked this problem child up today. A bit over 4 feet long, about 19 or so wide and a bit over 3 inches thick.

Some obvious issues, but look at the color, grain and all that compression curl. Oh my.

I have some ideas but I’ll have stare at it for a while [eek]  [eek]

Nice piece!  I am lucky to also have a local harvesting sawyer.  I picked up a bunch of cherry and walnut at about $2 a board foot.  Some of it will be crap and repurposed as necessary but also got some slabs like you did that are for pondering until the right project comes along.

I’ll probably use a bunch of inlays to patch them up.

Sort of.  [tongue] It decided that it was too short for a console table and too skinny for a coffee table. It also refused to be an end table or nightstand. So it got split in half and will become one floor lamp and maybe a couple of table lamps.

Finally got a piece of that walnut sanded and some finish on it. This is the first coat but it is stunning.  I’m a happy camper.
