Hello All

I wanted to start a new thread since the original thread from Peter got kinda hijacked...sorry.  We should definitely keep contributing ideas to that thread too since Peter's thread is for 2012 FOGfest ideas!

Ever since that thread started, I've been really wanting to try to meet my FOG friends.  As soon as Sean Ackerman said he'd try to host something, I was definitely thinking we can make this happen!

I messaged Sean back and forth this am and I'm starting this thread to see if there is some real interest from everybody else.

At this point, there is nothing set in stone, rather, just trying to get input from everybody.  For those that don't know, Sean's storefront is located in New York just off of the I 84/684 area.

I would assume we would have a much better chance at having a successful gathering in the nicer seasons as bad weather can inhibit travel and screw everything up!  On the reverse of that, spring/summer are the busier vacation and workload schedules.

If we're going to pull something off, your thoughts and input is going to be really important!

I would really like to meet as many people as possible!  I would probably be looking to Sean and anybody else who lives in that area for info on places to stay and such!

Bob

I suggest the best time would be a Saturday afternoon/ evening. This would mean we could drive over in the morning, have the FOG party, and then drive home Sunday. Probably best to avoid the holiday weekends but between May and September would be ideal.

I agree with that...seems a lot of people might find it easier to travel on a saturday/sunday.  Just to throw it out, but it could be cool to maybe go Friday-Sunday and if people can make the whole time...awesome...otherwise, Sat/Sun...maybe just to have options within a 3 day period.

Just a thought, how about tying a FOG meet in with the WIA show in Cincinnati (actually across the river in Kentucky)?

Woodworking in America

I'm not sure about this year, but Festool USA was there last year (including a brief appearance from Shane) , along with a lot of the top tool makers and vendors in America. Lots of good workshops and classes.

Several guys from the FOG were there last year, and so were a bunch from talkFestool.

I can say from personal experience that there are many good places to hold private parties in and around the convention center.

That is a good idea but builderbob needs to add in the thread title " NY State " 2011 FOG meet  ;)

Sean has offered up his store as a meet location.

Of course, I think people from outside NYS would be allowed in too.  [big grin]

I am definetly up for it, and for me the days selected do not matter unless I simply could not come for some real reason.

A whole day as opposed to a part of a day.

The only problem I see of having two days is that even though some people might not be able to make it one day or the other, others might choose one day or the other and thus kind of split the party and meeting oppertunities too much.

Seth

Seth, I need to revise that.  Definitely no out of staters allowed.  We're very picky here ;)

I'm shocked that you guys would be up for a 2-3 day meet.  Interesting.  I don't know if there's enough to do, but hey, if you guys are up for it, I'm in.  There is a Holiday Inn about 10-15 minutes away.

Let's keep this thread alive and see how much interest we have.

We will be having our second Gary Katz event this year....this may be a good time to meet.

So that's the reason! You New Yorkers seem to be so successful at keeping most of the good woodworking shows out.  [big grin]

Hahaha [laughing]

I will have to temporarily change my address to Mahopac Ave, Yorktown Heights NY...I'll give my best NY accent a go!  I am a Yankees fan, so that should count for something!

Funny Bob, I sure that might be my address to, it is at least for my Amex card
That ok Sean if I have to use the card your one person I have no complaints about spending with
So lets have this party soon and get together and share some fun and Festool stories with each other

Allen,

You are on my calender!  Yeah!

Not strictly relevant to this thread but related.

Garrett Hack (of Fine Woodworking fame) is holding a two-day class in Vermont on June 18th-19th focusing on inlays and other furniture details which I am hoping to attend. I did a three-day class last year and it was great fun and really interesting. Any FOGgers who are interested in going let me know as it would be good to meet up.

Richard.

Just as an idea, should we start a new thread for each place and time we will have a fog event?we have one started Oct. 1 and 2 in Roanoke Va.
We don't have the details , because we don't know what we want to do yet!!! tell me what you want to do or see !!

I think that is a good idea to have seperate location threads.
