Newb here... am I making any major mistakes with my first purchase?

One more thing, I still feel giddy every time I use the ratcheting collet on the 1400.  No more two wrench dance or skinned knuckles.

I find the ratcheting collet lock a bit over rated.  I've spent a lot years with the old two wrench collets and  think they're fine.  You guys that are having/had trouble with the two wrench collets and skinning knuckles are doing it wrong.  The two wrenches should form a V about 5-10 degrees apart, not so far apart that you can't get one hand around both wrenches.  Take one hand and squeeze the wrenches together, no busted knuckles.

Okay, it is now official.  I just placed my order (right under the price hike deadline... note that the price increase would not have made a very big difference, but every $ counts I suppose).  I bought from Bob Marino and the service thus far has been impeccable.

I'm still waiting on the cost of the qwas dogs, but I should be just under the $4000 mark.  I have another $1000 set aside for miscellaneous expenses, protective gear, router bits, some hand tools, clamps, etc.  I need these things because I am a newb and although I've done a few things at home and taken a woodworking class, this purchase represents my attempt to have a home shop. 
My home situation places some extreme limitations on me with respect to space and ability to make a mess, but I think the festool system will allow me to really jump deeper into woodworking as a hobby.  It is a little scary to jump so far in all at once, but I don't think I'll regret it.  I've been considering this purchase for quite some time (and working the overtime to pay for it).

Awesome set of tools!!  I would add a sander to your collection if you do not have one -- a Rotex is a great all around sander or an ETS 3 or ETS 5 if you want a finish sander.  Congrats on the purchase and enjoy your new tools!

Firstly, my apologies - I have seen this thread, but TBH didn't pay much attention. However, I've just seen your tool list & seen that you've gone for an upgrade on the hose rather than buying the 36mm as an extra.

Not a problem with that, except that the dust chute on the domino fits inside the 27mm hose end, so you can't connect the 36mm hose to it directly. You need either a full 27mm hose, or an adapter made from a short length of 27mm hose and 2x 27mm hose ends. There's a thread about the adaptors on here somewhere...

PS - it's the same with the sanders, but I see you're not getting any of those yet. But, you will [big grin]

Thanks for the heads up!  I added an adapter to my order, and in a final flip-flop went with a 3.5m hose. 
No sanders for me yet... I had to draw the line somewhere.  I'll make due with my porter cable ROS for now.  Perhaps a festool sander will be an upgrade down the road (need to let my bank account recover and make something for my wife first in order to ease further purchases).
