Newbie from Gold Coast Australia

Hi guys

Well I have had a Festool Rotex90 and CT22 for 3 years where I used for sanding (obviously) windows frames and doors in the house and loved it.

I enjoyed woodworking as a kid but all my life I was frustrated with not having the correct or quality of tools needed for the job and just gave up. Fast forward to now (48 years old) and I really want to create projects for the home and prepared to spend the money to make the job easier. These would include bookshelves, TV cabinets and the home renovations (maintenance). I know they can be mutually exclusive but having basic quality tools will overlap my projects.

I enjoy creating and learning "stuff" that I make but 2 other important areas for me is making cabinets etc is that they can be custom made to what we want. As my skills increase I believe I can achieve bigger projects as time goes by and the cost of getting things done. Now I know this can be more expensive then getting cabinets made etc but it means I can add value to what I do with building projects and get the satisfaction.

My field is IT and have just started home automation stuff (sensors, lights) and this lies in with stuff I want to incorporate in cabinets (lighting and sensors) and have the ability to create nooks and crannies throughout the house to hold sensors.
I also collect pinball machines and really want to get in the cabinetry side of things as most treasure hunts for pinball machines require alot of cabinet work.

On a personal note, I need tools to make my job easier as I have little use of my left hand - I can grab bulky objects using my palm but have trouble say, holding a screw as I only have a pinky and ring finger - this is why the Festool way is so me with regards to using rails (and other jigs)

I've been reading so much on this and other woodworking forums and now I'm ready to post some questions

I just had a look at the forum and wondering the best place to post about Festool equipment purchases and basic tools etc?

I dont want to look like a complete newbie

I'm round the 30 year mark of IT and in the process of packing my tools (several Festools) and heading up just beyond Noosa from Sydney. Yeh - I'm taking the family and everything else too.

I had a recent break from work while getting our home ready to sell and I don't think I can ever go back to the complex mountain of ignorance that is "corporate IT'.

I'm sure there's a few people that would read this and start to hum Green Acres [big grin]

I'll say the track saw system and the flexibility of the MFT will suit you well. Some people don't understand the satisfaction of doing something yourself .. but you'll find plenty of soulmates on the FOG.

Nice to hear, I never did the corporate world and Just plodding along in a 3 man team...nice and not as stressful. I moved up from Sydney 15 years only because of a year contract and stayed since.

I think after making few nice furnitures that you would love and enjoy to use them, your good quality tools would be paid by itself. [smile]
