Nifty Neatos #1 - Video

Hi Everyone

I have been laid up with a bad back for a several days and unable to do any woodwork. A few weeks ago I made up a little gadget to help me hold small pieces being cut on the Kapex. I did not think much more about it until Ron, [member=10147]jobsworth[/member], had his accident. Although my gadget would not have helped Ron, his accident did make me think that it might be useful to share the idea of my simple work holding tool.

So, I decided to make a short video and in doing so came up with a concept for future short videos which would fall under the general title of "Nifty Neatos".

Hi Bob

Many thanks. My back won't go away - I broke it a few years ago and I have to put up with it when it gets bad. I hope to be getting some new treatment in a few months which should make things a lot better.

I never let it get me own as I have seen so many people far worse off than me. I have seen a crippled 12 year old child with loads of problems yet so positive and cheerful and so there is nothing that can happen to me to compare to that.

Not to diminish Peter's Nifty Neato in any way, FastCap introduced something they called the 10 Million Dollar Stick some two years ago that offered similar safety features.  I believe they charge $14.95 for it:

nice peter..one thing i hate about doing the stop block for repeat cuts is that if you dont cut a relief or chamfer on  flat side of the stop block dust accumulates and it throws off your next cut if you dont notice it.

I thought the Million Dollar Stick was something Izzy Swan's came up with and took to Fastcap to mass produce and market.
I remember he has a couple videos on YT in which he was using a all wood version. And in those videos it seemed to evolve with some slight changes as he gained some experience using it.

I made my own about 2 years ago and use it all the time with my SCMS. It's not as fancy as the FastCap version but it works and I have all my fingers to prove it.

But Peters' springy thing works great for small stuff, and I think it might be faster between cuts though maybe not by much.
Just proves there is more than one way to do something and get the same result which in this case is working safely.

As you know Ron, it is keeping the digits the same length at the end of the day that counts !
