Nip/Tuck: New T-Locs, Old Inserts

Okay, I just received some new T-Loc Systainers to update some of my old tools in the classic Systainers.  Here’s what I’ve learned so far, my T15 drill insert just barely fits with a little trimming.  However, the Rotex 125 doesn’t.  The Rotex 125 is in a classic #2, the problem is the new T-Locs have protruding reinforcement members in the front center of the lid, and this doesn’t allow the lid to close in the T-Loc #2 Systainer.  I believe it would work in the larger #3 Systainer.  I have yet to try the TS55 that I have a T-Loc as well.  I got the TS55 insert to fit in the T-Loc but not the small foam block in the lid.  I glued my own piece of foam in the lid instead and all is well.

I’d like member to report here what fits and what doesn’t as you start upgrade to T-Locs.  This also begs the question, will Fesool USA be making the new T-Loc tool inserts available for purchase?

Old tool inserts in new T-Loc:
T15+3 drill (N. American)  [thumbs up]
TS55 plunge cut saw  [thumbs up]

RO125 sander  [crying]

Yes, of course. Although, I wouldn't expect us to have all of them in stock for a few months possibly.

Will older model inserts be available as well?  I have a C12 drill that would like a T-Loc with an Attic Lid???

As far as I know, it would be the same insert as the soon-to-be-released Lithium Ion C-series drills. The form factor of the new and old C-drills are the same as far as I know.

Does this mean you have some in stock now?  Is it possible to let us know when you get the new inserts for each tool?

Brice, I'm not sure if we have any in stock. It would be difficult for me to monitor and tell you once they're available on an ongoing basis. Let me see what I can find out.

If you send me one of those C-15's I'll test and abuse it and then write an article for it... Please?  [tongue]
I've been waiting for this one my C-12's fantastic, and my back ups been a -------- but it's a good 15 years old and the "new" batteries are going on 4 years.

Brice,  Any luck fitting the TS 55 to its T-Loc?  I see this as a major time consuming and exspensive conversion.  Not only do we need new bottom inserts with some tools, but top lid foam keepers glued to the replacement T-Locs as well.  Sam.

I pissed! [mad]  I like my old school MFT.  I like my sanders with less holes.  I like black splinter guards w/rubber flying all over the place and different kerf sizes keeping me on my toes, but mess with my little boxes, slow me down when I'm trying to roll up and go home.  No thanks.

I'm cooling off now. :-[  Thanks for the welcome Alan [big grin]

I haven't tried it yet, I just loaned my TS55 to another, trusted, contractor friend.  When I get it back I'll give it a go.

Okay, I just saw this video on Youtube.

new systainer system festool

Keep in mind we don't have much information to go on from this video.  From that standpoint I hesitated to post it here.  For all we know this guy threw the T-Loc off a roof to break the T-latch off.  The reason I posted this is for discussion.  How well do you think the new T-Locs will hold up.  I'm not too worried but time will tell.

BTW, I just uploaded this video testing the handle strength of the Systainers, the second part of the test was done with the T-Loc.  The vac is fairly full for the test, weighs 53 lbs.  So far so good.

See Brice.  That's what I've been talking about with those T-locks.  The ends of the lid open while only the area where the T-lock is remains closed.

That other guy's video is ridiculous since you can't see what led up to the handle coming off.  Definitely not an experiment worth considering.

Yes, that's true, but it held.  How would you hold up if we bounced you like that. [tongue]  All joking aside, the classic's lid flexes too, not as much, but it still does.

I agree.  I'm guessing it was knocked off when he closed the Sysport drawer with the T-latch open, that's a guess.  No, I'm not going to try to break off the latches on my new T-Locs testing.  Let someone else do that, JMB is due for a new video right?

True, JMB is our universal guinnea pig  [tongue], but you might consider doing it for "the team" as I'm sure Shane will gladly replace anything you break after a few minutes of hearing your list after your arrival at the training center.  Kick the T-Loc like JMB does glass.

I still think having the outboard latches adds to the strength, even if that extra factor won't be reached under typical conditions.

Probably true, but man do I hate all those latches.  T-Locs all the way.

Brice that's still a fair bit of a gap when you shake the vac... now If your me, you need 3 systainers on top and haul the thing down some stupid steep steps.
