No more Festool on Ebay.com or live.com

You didn't have to do what I asked, but what was the point of blacklisting me?  If I had figured out some way to defraud Paypal I certainly wouldn't have warned you first.  Your actions made no sense at all.
Festool Junkie didn't agree either, but was glad to sell me one.
No, I don't need to be taken off your blacklist, as I can't see ever having to buy anything from you.

You are reading between the lines and not reading my reasons so I will no longer comment or communicate with you on this and that is fine, I am not worried about loosing a sale to another dealer just as long as you got what you wanted and you saved money. Props to you and you were able to save before they pulled dealers from selling Festool on eBay and live.com.

My God, I just spent 45 minutes reading through all this "stuff" and at the end of the day, it's going to be only so many wasted electrons as Festool is going to do what any company would do and that's anything it wants!  They can't please everyone and they aren't trying to.  As with most manufacturers, their primary customers are their dealers, not the end user.  Before anyone jumps on this like a tick on a hound dog, it's really pretty simple.  They have to support their dealers.  If they don't, the whole thing folds like a house of cards.  Look at what happened to Dell.  They tried to go strictly direct and bypass their original dealer network.  Now, they are in Best Buy, Sam's, you name it.  Hmmm... Maybe they figured out there is some value added to having a dealer network afterall?  If you like dealing with your local dealer and don't mind paying the tax, fine.  It's a free society and that's the beauty of it, you can do whatever you want!  I'm sorry guys, on this one, unlike the Kapex problem, Festool doesn't owe us anything.  You can vote on how you feel with your wallet...

Instead of continuing to blame the customer for your screw up, did you ever think of just apologizing?  Amazing that you can stay in business.

Toller,

I've read this entire thread including the backstory with you and Andrew.

From my take - you wanted some kind of guarantee that the rebate would happen and Andew didn't want a high bidder on his auction to back out because of reasons beyond his control.

His response made sense and was very reasonable and polite.  Yours is borderline rude and getting spiteful.

From a 3rd party perspective, it is you that I would no longer choose to do business with - not Andrew.

The thing is the Microsoft deal won't last forever.  Festool probably sold a lot of product to people that would never have purchased them without the incentive from Microsoft.  Many of those same people will catch the bug and have the uncontrollable urge to fill their homes with Festool products.  Almost all Festool products require proprietary consumables only available from their dealers.  Shutting down those sales will keep countless others from the Festool addiction.  Honestly my wife was telling me to buy the Kapex if I wanted to because of the microsoft deal.  I am a hobbyist.  I can't justify $1300 for it but with the 25% off I was considering it.  I know Festool won't go broke because I didn't make the purchase but I doubt I am the only one that was about to pull the trigger who won't now.  I guess I should be grateful.  I managed to get a Fein Multimaster without any obstruction.

Could not have said it better myself.

I'll have to echo that as well.  I can certainly understand both sides of this issue but I have to agree that Festool probably closed the door on a lot of people that were thinking of purchasing one of their tools.  I was fortunate enough to take full advantage of the program before all the items got pulled.  There's no way I would've bought what I did without the 25% discount that live.com was offering, plus the 10% that I got from ebay.

Hi Andrew Utterguy,

Where is your facility physically located and where do you ship from?

Thanks.  Joe

Do any Festool dealers offer Gift Cards to their store?  I would like to buy a $1000 gift card for my father.  I'd like to use Buy It Now to purchase from eBay using my Paypal account.  Paypal is very convenient for me.  And I like eBay because their feedback mechanism gives me a comfort level that I'm dealing with a Dealer that provides good customer service.  I've had better luck with eBay than many local dealers.  Since my Father lives 60 miles from the nearest Festool dealer, this will be a nice gift for him.

I'm serious by the way.

I was pretty lucky last week. In the UK we can still buy festool off ebay (uk store) and my girlfriend had an "ebay 15% off" voucher, so I called up a dealer organized some freebies if I bought an 1400 router, ordered it via ebay, got 15% paid by ebay AND got some free goodies...

If Festool is protecting the brick and mortar resellers then they still have some more protecting to do, at least in my area.  The two stores closest to me don't really stock Festool tools.  They have demo tools but if you want a real tool they order it for you and get it in 3-7 days.  That includes a Woodcraft franchisee.  They stock abrasives and other accessories, but their collections aren't complete.  And their prices on those accessories are jacked up.  The sell a $4.00 small pack of sandpaper for $5.00.  But if they have what you're looking for you can take it home.

The other is independent.  Their trade is almost entirely with pros, so they don't even stock small packs of abrasives.  They can't understand why somebody would want to buy a CT Mini dust collector.  They're thinking stationary units in a big shop.  I needed something I could haul all over a three story house.  And they still order the real tools.

There is one more store I need to try but it's a little further away so I'm waiting for some excuse to be in that area of town.  It's a gas thing.

Holding the line on price prevents resellers from competing on the basis of price, as they surely would.  So they can only compete on the basis of service.  I wonder how much leeway a reseller would have anyway if free to discount.  If the MSRP is only a little above the price Festool charges the reseller......

If I buy Apple products online at the Apple site they collect the tax for the state as part of the sale...so you pay product, shipping and sales tax.  So,I think in some instances this sends people to the local Apple Store or other local seller to save on shipping. Perhaps this would be another way for Festool to move people toward using local sellers or B&M sellers as we call them.  I believe that service is worth something but so is my time to go shipping and do research myself....at least in theory.

Apple does it because they have to. Apple has a presence in every state. I have a presence in IL so I only need collect taxes from sales made to people here in IL. If I had a store in Wisconsin I would have to collect there. The bigger companies all have stores in every state so they have to collect sales tax for the state they are in because of the state laws and they file tax returnees in those states.

If you did not do business in a certain state and collected taxes you would have to somehow pay the taxes to that other state which is such a hassle it is near impossible, unless you do business in that state. That's why companies leave it to the buyers to deal with the taxes which usually come up as a "use tax" for each state, but RARELY is ever enforced because it is logistically impossible to enforce. You can look up "USE taxes"on google almost every state has one.

When I was audited even though I clearly purchased a ton of stuff out of the state of IL auditors did not count it against me and said they do not enforce the law.
