Whenever I see that Tinker has posted a reply on any thread, I am almost always amused and entertained. [big grin]

He has stories upon stories he narrates to elucidate a particular issue, and ALL of his stories are hugely fun to read... AND helpful.

I hereby nominate Tinker to carry the title of "Official FOG Bard!"  [tongue]

Nobody does it better!!! [thumbs up]

Who will second the nomination??

Cheers,

Frank

Fine by me, his stories are often amusing, though sometimes he's a bit too long-winded for my taste.

I delight in the long stories, in this multi-tasking 140 character limited attention span world storytelling is becoming a lost art.

"Bard", on the other hand, doesn't quite fit for me. Wayne has always reminded me of a guy sitting on the porch with gentle smile, & an enthralled gang of kids hovering about. Gotta think on that one, Old Geezer somehow sounds negative.... (Wayne)  [poke]

Whatever the formal designation, I second the sentiment.  [not worthy]

I grew up in the military.  I was born while my father was in the Navy.  My two brothers where born in the Air Force and my father, "the Old Man" retired from the Army after 20 some years (as an enlisted man...retired Warrant).  We were told that the "Old Man" was a term of respect for someone that had seen it all and knew how to deal with whatever came up.  My dad was like that and I'm certain that Tinker definitely deserves that distinction also.

Spinner of yarns? Fabler? Chronicler? Raconteur? [unsure]

Tinker is a 39 yr old Sage. I would love to be able to share a few beers on the porch and listen to his stories till the sun comes up .

With all due respect

Old Man Tinker

gets my vote.

I did look up Bard and for me it didn't fit.

You all are right.... "Bard" doesn't really fit.

Instead, how about "Official FOG Raconteur"

Much more fitting!  [smile]

RACONTEUR
There is no greater compliment than to be referred to as a raconteur. The art of being a raconteur is different than other chroniclers of the past. Unlike a historian or journalist who is bound to facts and evidence, the raconteur instead is a master artist who concentrates on the aesthetics of the story and the emotions it evokes in the listener. To hear a raconteur tell a story is like listening to a virtuoso musician skillfully playing with tempo and dynamics. He or she knows when to hold back details that do not add to the story and how to exaggerate the ones that do. Yet the raconteur never hopes to deceive the audience. Rather he or she has a tacit understanding with the listener that a poetic license is allowed, provided that any embellishment will never depart so far from the truth as to become fiction. ”

Cheers,

Frank

The definition fits but the term itself sounds a bit hifalutin, and I think we should eschew obfuscation & where possible espouse elucidation. [dead horse]

Still, I am all for bestowing the honor.  [big grin]

Here's a couple of ideas that are synonyms for "storyteller."

literary artist

wordsmith

scribe

teller of tales

spinner of yarns

Having spent many days talking with Tinker at demo's at Tool Nut I am convinced that anything we call is will be taken with great honor. I have grown to consider this 39 year old man a great friend and a source of much information. He has had and still has a great life. I vote for anything that the group decided upon

Just plain "storyteller" works for me.
I really don't have much imagination for making up tales.
Just have had a knack for sitting back, keeping my eyes and ears open and mouth shut.
Try not to keep the bad times too close, but the good times relished.

I have told a lot of my stories to my kids.  My son would laugh politely, but somehow would convey the fact of suspicions of bogus.  Eventually, he met a young lady whose parents had been at the same university as I had, and, so happens, at the same time.  He told the father of some of the somewhat wild tales(actually tame for a bunch of AGGIES) and how he suspected some slight stretching.  The father told him he thought i was probably telling the truth, as the stories my son had related to him had been the talk of the campus.  My stock went up a little  ::) In spite of all, he ended up marrying the girl.

Now, for the guys who indicate i am somewhat long winded, y'all made me do it. :P [ban]
Need I go on? [scratch chin]

Thanks anyhow, Guys.  I do enjoy recognition, as does everybody.  Even more, I just enjoy sitting, remembering and telling the story. That is the fun part.
Tinker
PS  I also enjoy others telling their stories.  [popcorn] [popcorn] [popcorn]

When Wayne tells a story I relate it to the things my grandfather and grammom must have seen growing up at the same time. They just passed this year after 65 years of marriage within 5 weeks of each other. My grammom couldn't love with him.

That said I have a special place in my heart for your stories Wayne, thanks.

@ rizzoa13.  Thanks for the encouragement.  I have a special place for all of my stories.  for some of them, i have to take a break as i can hardly see to type.  I have a pile of those stored in my computer that i keep telling my self that "Someday, i will put them altogether and give to my kids."  My life has been no more exceptional or unusual than anybody else's has been.  I just enjoy the telling. If the telling brings back any of the old memories for anybody, that is all the praise I need or deserve.

My wife and i will never be around for a 65th as your grandparents had been, God rest, but we do have a 50th coming up in just about a year.  i am 39 and so you know I married a child bride.  she has managed to stay young as well, so our kids are actually older than we are.  [wink] Hey, 65 is not really so fr=ar off.  My wife's mom hung around til she was 93.  My mom made it to 97.  I guess a 65th ain't so far out of sight, is it?
