Except Festool HL, is there any other brand of hand planer with spiral blade?
Thanks.

I don’t know of a currently produced power hand planer that uses a spiral blade, but some of the older Porter Cable/Rockwell/Porter cable planers used to.

The blade/cutter was a different type to the current Festool planes that use a flat cutter with a radius edge. The Porter Cable version used a large spiral solid cutter similar to a large spirally edged router bit. There were at least two different models, and both also had a cantilevered cutter to allow flush planing like the Festool HL850.

One of the Porter Cable planers was the 126 door planer.  Another model was the small 167 model “Block” planer. There also seems to have been a model 653 “Versa” planer. I don’t think the versa planer had the cantilevered cutter though.

I'm not aware of any current ones either.

In addition to what Rip mentions, Stanley had one with a double spiral blade in the 40's .  They also had a combo tool which was a motor that slipped into a router base and a planer base. Was aimed at the door hangers.

Not exactly a spiral blade , but Makita's 1002ba has a curved blade option that will produce rough hewn boards like Festool's optional blade.

Thank you all. Very useful information. Those old Rockwell/PC are still on e-bay.

Virutex, a Spanish brand, has one:https://www.virutex.es/productes/?accio=producte&id=136

It has two heads, a regular one but with an spiral blade, and another one that is a metalic tube covered with abrasive (like sandpaper) that removes material quicker than a sander, and is tear out free.

What I don't know is if it is Available in north America.

Regards.

I have one of the PC 126 door planers.  Years ago I lent it to a friend who managed to run my brand new carbide blade through a nail in the bottom of a door.  $120, FUP.

I still have a Rockwell Versa-plane with spiral cutter. Model 653 10 amp motor not your one handed power plane [eek]
