Well, I did it. I decided not to buy a Kapex, at least for now. This is the Makita LS0714 7 1/2" miter saw reconfigured to fit my old extension wings. I'm really excited about this set up. I'm getting a D36 hose next week and will report on the DC capabilities. Let me know what you think? Eric

The saw only bevels left. I have spent most of my time with it checking for accuracy and setting up the stand and extension wings, but it seems real sweet. It was so light that I bolted it to the plate for the stand. I still need to get D36, Forrest Chopmaster, and scales for the Kreg tracks. I was gonna edgeband the plate with oak for durability, Eric

It will be great for square cuts with a nice blade upgrade!  Very curious on dc. That's a direct drive motor right?  How noisy is it?

I hate those saws two guys I work with have them . Only good thing about them is that they're light and easy to carry. The pullout on them is rough and jerky and they tend to snatch. I prefer my ls1013 I suppose because the head is heavier you have more control and it doesn't snatch.

I should have the D36 by Tues. Its no louder then my Dewalt. I will add more to the thread as I find out, Eric

What is this "snatch" that you speak of?
Do you mean bind up, or catch when making a cut?
Tim

I didn't notice any snatch, very smooth. The Euro model is very different. The stock blade on wood primed casings had amazing results. I will have to adjust the 45 to the right, but its minor. Clam Clamps would shut the joint and probably even spring clamps, but I will adjust later today for a perfect metered square.

Thats better dust control than I get with my Kapex.

This saw is certainly on my list.....although Its currently loosing out to the Mafell KSS 300.

dust collection looks very impressive on that saw.

Nice little saw.
What's the largest crown you can cut in a nested position?

I don't own the saw, just remembered seeing that video years ago...but it one review said that it wouldn't cut 2 3/4 base

Sweet Eric.  Glad it showed up so quick.  I'm impressed to hear that you're psyched on the quality of that stock blade.  I'm not at the shop, I'd check if I was, but I wonder if it's classic Makita Japan quality blade.  Maybe made by Matsushita.

I think that saw is very practical and a good compliment to the DeWalt. When the Hitachi SCMS came out 20 years ago it had a 8 1/4" blade and I was amazed. I know a carpenter that still uses that saw with great results.  Plus the savings over the Kapex will help pay for Eric's ultimate work bench.
