I saw this cool clamp in this youtube video, it looks to be a Festool gecko suction cup clamp with a mounting bracket on it. Check out how they use it in the video (around 3:03 into the video). Has anyone seen this before?

Brice, that's a neat edge bander.    As for the suction cup, maybe it's a different company that makes them for different tool manufacturer. Not necessary a FESTOOL product.Just like their systainers that are made by TANOS.
Why don't you do some deep research about the Gecko suction cup to see who really makes them.

brice. have you loaded the right video

that looks like a portable edgebander to me

it doesnt look like it has a vacuum clamp on it

Tom,he is talking about the suction cup (about 3 min into the ideo)Looks like the festool suction cup

It is the same 'gecko' pad that Festool supply - if you look at the photo of the Festool vesion:

you can see that there a small flats with holes through at each corner. On the video, there are columns attached to the corners, and fixed to a plate at the other end (which is then screwed/clamped to the bench):

It may be commercially available in this form, from the company that makes them for Festool, but it would be very straightforward to make one if you wanted.

this is the second time that ive seen virutex and festool products that have a great deal in common

im begining to think these two companies might have some sort of commercial / design hook up

ive mentioned before that virutex have a drywall sander that has many similarities to the festool planex

good companies who work at the same quality of products attract each other

its no bad thing for the end users

at the end of the day shared deisgn and development costs can be passed on to us

of course festool and virutex may not have a comercial hook up

it may just be that two companies working at the sharp end of innivotive products

end up producing very similar solutions

i also have more than a feeling (looking at the virutex edgebander) that there is a checkosovakian company producing a similar product and they may also be in the same field as festool and virutex

I've got one of those portable edgebanders in the UK. Yep, it's portable, but it also has a table mount kit (inc. in UK price) which means you can use as a conventional edgebander up to 44mm x 3mm thick. I run my 8foot eggar boards through it to give a professional edge finish to those nasty (i love them) non wood sheet materials....
