I am now taking orders for the new model Self Centering Guide (SCG-10) for the Festool Domino® Joiner. Orders can be placed at this link: Tenon Joiner Guide Stops. The original Multi-position Guide Stop (MGS-20 & MGS-30) is geared toward having multiple stop positions for repeated work. The Self Centering Guide is geared toward being able to quickly reset to a new set of stop positions.

I am still working on the descriptive content of the website, but the ordering pages are complete. (For dealers, the dealer ordering page is also complete. Send me an email if you need access.)

So far there has been a lot of interest in this model guide. If you missed it, some of the earlier discussions can be read at the FOG Here.

The operation is pretty simple. As with the MGS guides, the SCG-10 mounts directly to your Domino machine using the pre-existing mounting holes in the base. To ensure the guide is always centered on your Domino, a pair of centering plates capture the sides of your Domino. (The centering plates control the position, and the thumbscrews hold it in place.)

To set the stop positions, loosen the two black thumbscrews, slide the stops to the desired position, and then re-tighten the thumbscrews. The two stops are cable-slaved together to remain centered about the Domino mortising location. When you move one stop, the other stop moves in the opposite direction to always stay centered.

The baseplate is black powder coated for durability. All of the aluminum components are precisely machined from billet aluminum, and anodized (green) for a hardened, wear-resistant surface and for a beautiful appearance. The slaving cable is steel wirerope (cable) with an outer protective coating for durability.

Doesn't this do the same thing as the trim stop attachment that comes with the Domino? I haven't needed to use it yet so not quite sure.

trim stop

yes and no. this self centers for speed. its how festool should have done it

The trim stop is also only intended to be used for the end grain of a board. You would have to remove one side with each plunge, and that kind of defeats the purpose.

The SCG and MGS guides have flip-up dog arms so they can stay in position but out of the way when not used (like for plunging the mating mortise) and flip down when needed. If you want a comparison for them, it is closer to suggest these are like having movable pins/paddles on the front of the Domino fence.

And also the SCG sets stops up to the edges of the fence; the trim stop attaches to the outside of the fence and sets stops starting from around 10mm from the outside.

Trim stop is more for laying out a long row of mortises for, say, a panel glue-up with equal spacing.  The SCG is more for doing the mortises for rail/stile joinery.

Paul-Marcel, I believe you are thinking of the cross stop (airplane wings). The trim stop slides over the Domino fence, and holds the end of a piece of wood toward the machine.

D'oh! Brain fail... you're right... had I read your end-grain comment before hitting post, I might have remembered.  Need. More. Coffee.

Thanks Rick! My order is in and I look forward to checking it out. My MGS-20 works great too.  Tom

Thanks Tom. The best complement and feedback I can get is when a past customer orders again.

I received mine as well.

Well designed, nicely executed. Good job, Rick.

I have to admit that I didn't understand at first that the SCG-10 is not meant to replace the MGS-20, but to compliment it. After realizing this, I ordered the set.

Rick's two guides, along with Ron's plate, will make using my Domino a whole lot easier.

The mailman brought my new SCG-10 guide stop today -- VERY NICELY DONE INDEED!
I haven't used it yet but it is going to be very fast & handy for face frames, etc. I think I'll make up a simple set of gage blocks in standard lengths (1", 1-1/4", 1-1/2", etc) to quickly set the stop spacing i.e. a 2" gage block will set the stop for 1" spacing off CL. That was about the only drawback of the old MGS being a little slow setting those stop positions -- this new one is dead simple & super fast.
Great job Rick!

Rick:  Placed my order today, really looking forward to using it on my next cabinet job rail and stiles..

Thanks for the reminder, Sal. It has been a very busy day and I just returned from the post office dropping off a rather large stack of guides, including yours. I got distracted with some other exciting business today, and almost forgot to notify you that your guide had shipped out.

My order is in.

BTW Are you going to finish your "MFK 700 Trim Router" additional manual sometime?  ??? I may have a spair roundtoit hidden somewhere if you need one. :)

Hi Jerome. I normally never comment on who has ordered a guide unless they publicly mention it. Since you have, I wanted to point out that I have shipped to virtually every country in the world, but you are the very first person from Japan. So now you've rounded out the world.  [thumbs up]

Yes, I need to get the MFK700 manual done. I have no excuse. I was holding it until I got more "Application" information, but I should at least release what I have. It's 90% there. By the way, what is a "roundoit"?

Sorry my miss spelling it should be a round tuit they are now available on line at http://www.quantumenterprises.co.uk/roundtuit/ :) i often find that don't have one ;)

If you release what you have on the MFK700 I would appreciate it. and of course it isn't too difficult to make additions later.

With my order you can check off Japan for shipping and Thailand for usage, as that is where my Domino is :(
