Now They're Teasing Us With the Kapex UG Stand!

Just had a post pop up on my Facebook account from FestoolUSA saying that the UG stand system will be available here in the states in Spring 2011.  Sounds like there may be another $800 or so drained from my account if it turns out to be a nice unit, on top of the $$ already allocated for the RO-90, Carvex, CXS, and C-12 Li-On.

This was announced by a couple of dealers here on the forum recently. In case anyone missed it the Kapex UG mobile cart with extensions is coming some time around April of this year. More details to follow as we get closer to the launch.

Shane-any idea what the height is to the mounting plate for the saw?  I'm 6'-4", and most stands are too low for me. I've got my Kapex sitting on my MFT3, and that's about the ideal height for me.

It's a system, Bob! The deck height on the Kapex, when mounted on the UG, matches the height of the MFT/3. So, it would a little lower than your current configuration.

It's a system, Bob! The deck height on the Kapex, when mounted on the UG, matches the height of the MFT/3. So, it would a little lower than your current configuration.

I realize that, but seeing how I'm outfitting a whole new shop and replacing pretty much all the tools i have, I figured I'd buy the best I could. Conveniently, there have been some new releases that coincide with my needs. I may or may not go for the UG, as I've got ideas for another stand that may work better for my needs.

Too bad you can't use the kapex base extensions and the crown stops. [mad]

I don't really dig the cart.  I think the Kapex on it's mft/3 with the new wings would have stacked right up there with the saw helper.

I don't see a site carpenter getting to excited if he can't use his 200.00 worth of crown stops/table extensions with the new wings.

I didn't buy a 1300.00 miter saw to have to rig up my own crown stops and fiddle with things.

I buy these tools because they are thought out and provide most of the jigs and accessories right off the shelf.

If I wanted to make my own stops, I would still have my old 10" Makita chop box with the guard that you couldn't see around.

I will stick with the old version of them, yeah more pieces but, better thought out.

I would love to see Festool come up with a hard abs shell cover that covers the Kapex while it is on the stand that clips / clamps/ attaches to the stand to prevent damage to the Kapex.  I would have to try the system to see if I would like it.

What ever they called it would probably have stopf in the name.  I personally, based on my needs, would love to have protection for the top of the Kapex during transportaion.  So here we have a stand that could stand upright or lay down during transport to the job, and I thought it would be a good idea to have a hard shell to protect the Kapex in case of it flipping over, things being dropped on it, etc.

Just a suggestion.

Here is how I store mine for travel.  It gets sat on the kapex mft/3, which is folded up on the floor of my trailer.

I do not tie it down or strap it down, it just sits there.

I try to do a good job of securing items in my 20' enclosed trailer but, I can be a lazy carpenter sometimes.

I have had numerous things fall over on it.  Never left a scratch or harmed it any way.

They might be expensive and really precise tools but, they are darn tough as well.

So Peter, what's the possibility of using your contacts at Festool/Tanos and your Stan Lee skills to enlighten them to the benefit and need of such an item?

Also, in talking with Brian, I get the feeling he's coming into work tomorrow in his Captain Rotex costume, throwing Granat discs at evil doers along his way.

Standing up down the kapex it won't fall over well never has with me and i do often go round corners n roundabouts quickly. About dropping things on it well that goes for any tool if you drop something on it it can break it but really you should make sure nothing can fall on it. If I was you instead of making something to protect your kapex why not make something like racking so stuff wont fall on it in my opinion you should make everything secure so it does not slide about and fall and break or break something else.  I have learned from my foam gun accident i just placed it in my van and my tool bag well when i braked for traffic lights my bag must of slid across n broke my foam gun and I had foam every where.

Darcy.  I have always wanted to have a way to protect my Kapex.  Search hard here and you will find that I am consistent.  $1300 bucks for a tool and no way to protect it versus a 400 buck sander that comes with protection.  I am hard on my tools.

Ken.  I will work on that.  Can it be sold to others versus just me in the quantities necessary to offset the production costs and the quantities required to make it work?  Probably not.

My guess is that Brian grew up throwing Frisbees.  His aim might be deadly!

I recently ran over my ets 125 with my suburban.  I don't think it phased the sander.

I use my C-12 to pound on things.  I am sure I use my sanders in inappropriate ways more then once a week.

I keep multiple tools inside each systainer that beat around on each other.

I try to keep things from falling on things but, it happens and I have yet to inadvertently break a Festool from negligence. 

I do not treat any tool like a trophy, I am a square peg round hole kind of guy.

The new wings would be great, if they would work with the crown stops.

I don't have a Kapex yet and I'm not sure I'd ever buy the UG at $800, however I might be picking up the Kapex next month before the $ increase and I'd be interested in seeing some sketches of stuff you have in mind.  Maybe if other members saw them, you would be able to get some more interest and buying power.
