I've owned occidental leather pouches since the first year I got into the trades, 1998.  I've always been impressed with the quality of their pouches so when I saw their newest tool bag I ordered one to try out.  Overall I really like the bag I would have loved to see a few more pockets and a larger tape measure holder.  Unless you have a bag made just for you, you'll always find an area that could use improvement.  So heres a quick video tour of the 5588 master carpenter tool bag.

i'm in the market for a new take everywhere bag. i have the clc with a huge pocket in the middle that ends up weighing 100lbs. i like the classic look of this bag, what are everyones feelings on closed top vs open top?

I've had both closed top and open concept bags. I currently use a Veto Pro pac XXL F http://www.vetopropac.com/products/model-xxl-f
I like it quite a bit but it still doesn't hold everything I want. None the less it's a really good bag and keeps your hand tools easily accessible. The Zippered flaps fold down and clip in place so you can use it as an open concept bag and bundle it up when need be. I just find people are more tempted to reach into open bags and "borrow" stuff. Depends on your work environment I suppose I work with sometimes hundreds of carpenters on a gig. I Love Occi stuff to death though and despite me not needing this bag I'm still tempted to buy it. The leather perfectly conforms to your tools giving them a custom fit.
