Odd Carvex listing on Ebay

I was just checking what Festools are on Ebay. I noticed that there's a Carvex listed that does not include the charger or systainer. Given the routine mention that tools in England have a tendency to grow legs, I was wondering if this is one of those. (Important: This sale could actually be legit. It's just that there's enough oddness to make me wonder.)

Initially I thought it might be someone from here who was finally frustrated enough with their Carvex that they were just getting rid of it. That's why I looked more closely at it.

The listing

this seller is always selling festool nothing out of the ordinary

Didn't they do a Carvex/ drill package in the UK a while ago? Could be he kept the drill and thought the Carvex was garbage surplus to requirements. The batteries are interchangeable so it may be of use to somebody who already has a drill.

You always have to be careful when a tool is offered without it's accompanying accessoiries. There's always a chance it's nicked in that case. First thing to check then is what other items does the seller have to offer. If you check this particular seller's other items you'll see he sells a lot of Festool accessoiries, so in that case I'd wouldn't immediately label him suspect.

I'm not certain about this seller .. Always selling brushes and other parts.

If things seem too cheap, they probably are ...

It does seem to be way too cheap. It should be at least double the price. I also don't like his payment options, he only accepts PayPal. Why no bank transfer? Hmm....  [scratch chin]

blimey i would hate to be in the dock with you lot as the jury i have purchased lots of festool from similar sellers with great success ps whats dodgy about paypal ?

It's not PayPal itself that's raising a question here, it's that the seller explicitly states that absolutely no other kind of payment is acceptable.

It could be that he has been burned by other buyers in the past. (Thus legitimate.) Or it could be a way of avoiding face-to-face sales, thus remaining anonymous. It just stands out as yet another odd thing about an odd listing. (Update: They don't say anything about cash, thus that's apparently okay with the seller.)

Personally, I've heard enough horror stories about PayPal that they're the ones I consider a bit dodgy.

Mostly, this thread is filled with a bunch of speculation, including my own. Festoolfootstool has given the most solid info; that the seller has been selling Festool stuff for a while, and thus, is likely legit.

I don't know? [unsure]  This eBay seller needs to be brought in and questioned.  [dead horse]

Seriously ... I have watched a couple of items by this seller in particular. The bidding behaviour seems strange - as if they're bidding themselves.

Also, the quoted shipping to Australia is too cheap and I know it'll turn into an issue at payment time.

The CARVEX is now up to $295 with over 5 days to go ... incomplete, used, suspicious ...

One of the items this guy regularly tries to sell is the perspex routing aid - quite cheap ... but they never seem to sell.

This seller has only sold 66 things in the last 12 months ... if you could pick the item up locally, it could be worth considering (and pay cash only if as described).

Since ebay annually resets the sellers back to 100% positive if they are negative free for a period here is a handy site to only look at negative and neutral of a seller.

http://toolhaus.org/
For this particular seller this site does nothing that ebay does not but for larger sellers that have their negative and neutrals reset annually it is a handy site that will show negatives and neutrals dating back for years.

Ebay seems like a waste of time for Festool to me. I was looking at that used CT 26 - 36 handle on there. Now it currently is at 68 with the shipping when new is 75. Seems best to buy new and get the perks of exchanges and customer service that come with new unless you find a really good deal.
