of 1010 vibration

i used my of 1010 router today,  nearly new only used it twice , noticed a lot of vibration today. I was using a brand new biscuit cutting bit so swapped to an 18 mm straight cutter also new and there was still vibration. I checked the 8mm collet and it looked clean of any dust and doesnt look damaged. It was bad the other day i was using a template cutter and when it was running it felt like the bearing was grinding at the end of the cutter, but spinning the bearing with my hand i could feel it was fine.

Anyone else come across this ?

I don't think this is something I'd screw around with, call Festool.

No, I've not had this problem with my 1010.

No problems with my OF 1010. Always extremely smooth in operation. Like we say in Holland, runs like a sewing machine. When I pull the trigger, it starts purring like a cat and when it hits wood, it comes really to live. Then I need my ear protection.
Is it making the same noise/vibration without a bit and collet? If yes it is time to call Festool.

Iv'e replaced the bearings in a 1010, when they fail, you will know it- the squealing is unbearable. The machine was at least 12 years old and belonged to a co-worker.
It would be hard to imagine that a new one would fail. Check to see that there are no loose screws or parts that could be causing the vibration, just about any loose part could do it at +20,000 rpms. Aside from that, take it back for a trade-in or repair ASAP
  Unrelated- the original bearings i took out of the OF 1010 were NSK from Japan, not to imply they were not of good quality, I was just surprised to see that Festo had sourced parts from foreign markets.

Mine OF-1010 works fine. If you have indicator you can use it with straight shaft of 8mm drill bit. Put it into collet and secure it with nut. Fix router in vise, securely fix indicator. Then rotate drill bit with your fingers and see if collet axle is straight.  Do you have vibration without collet?

Thanks guys I will be taking it into my dealer its only about 3 or 4 months old and I dont use it as a main router yet so its probably only been used for an hour (5 minutes here 5 minutes there) if that.

I tried it without the collet and bit and it wasnt too bad but it doesnt sound like it did when I first got it. I Remember back when I got it the insert was broken in the systainer so it might have been damaged you never know. I also noticed while I had it running without any bit or collet that the top plastic section of the router was getting warm after only running it for 30 seconds that dont seem right.

UPDATE.....​

I phoned Festool UK today as I am still waiting to hear about my router which my dealer sent off on Tuesday 2nd feb. I have phoned my dealer 2 times now and just get told you have to wait, no offer of a loan tool or anything  [mad]. Finally today I got fed up and rang Festool UK direct and spoke to a very helpful girl there who called me back soon after to tell me that they are replacing the router with a new one just gotta wait for it to come from Germany now. God knows what was wrong with it, I only bought it in September and i bet ive only used it for 20 minutes as its not my main router.

Good to hear they're replacing it with new.

I was surprised to read you've got to wait for it coming from Germany, though. But then again, TTS probably don't keep stock themselves, as dealers orders are more than likely shipped direct from the factory.

I think the service you've got from your dealer is pretty poor - is there anywhere else local you could try?

There are a few dealers near by Jaycee tools (Festool fanatics), Bunny's bolts (toolfest) etc etc but I do get a good deal with my local dealer so I will put up with them for now  [smile] trouble with them is that only one guy there has been on the Festool training so the rest dont know a thing about it.

Hopefully should get it next week as I am about to build some more units for someone so need it really.
