While cruising a brochure, I found a base plate for the OF 1400 ... the 492574.

I can't find a lot of talk about it, but I'm just curious if this is the "missing magic" when it comes to using the OF 1400 with guide rails and the guide rail guide stop (492601) ??

The little bolt on foot thing that comes with the guide stop hardly seems up to the job - this base may be the quite handy!

Please advise ... otherwise I may just have to rush out and get a OF 2200 and accessory kit [big grin]

No, the hard fiber base you refer to is only 3mm thick, and you would need 5mm to account for the thickness of the Guide Rail.

Why not do as David has done?  http://festoolownersgroup.com/festool-jigs-tool-enhancements/of1400-router-enhancement/  Read the whole thread.

Of course, the OF 2200 would be nice too.   [big grin]

You know, I got the 1400 because it seemed like the mild mannered do everything "in-betweener" ... but I think an 1010 and a 2200 are the best things to have. The interesting thing to consider is whether the 1400 will feel too cumbersome used in a dovetail jig and would a 2200 be best placed sitting in a CMS module.

I can see myself ending up with 1010+1400+2200 ... I got rid of my Makita trimmer because I didn't use it ... I'll probably have to get an MKF700 now ... that bl00dy "collect the set" mantra is ringing in my ears  [eek]

I still haven't eBayed my 2000 Hitachi router ... I promised the better half I'd do that [embarassed] and the Hitachi jig saw [embarassed] and the Rupes sanders  [embarassed] and the Hitachi compound mitt saw [embarassed] ... etc, etc, etc  [big grin]

Kev,

I think that base plate you are looking at is for small diameter bits -- the hole is bore smaller so you get more stability closer to the bit.  The OF2200 is the only router that has a base made specifically for the guide-rail - this has one side that is thicker than the part that rides on the rail to make it perfectly smooth.  I have the 1010/OF2200 combo you refernce and agree that this is a dynamic duo...I thought about the 1400 when my other mid-size looked like it was giving up the ghost, but I have a hard time justifying it when I have two other routers that can handle anything I throw at them.  If you already have the OF2200, then I would certainly opt for the accessory kit -- the router is just not complete without it...I have used every accessory in that kit.
