OF 1400 CT26

I was working on some oak at weekend

the extractor fitting on my of1400 was just blocking up and not clearing (the clear plastic thingy)
the CT was working ok

seems to be the splinter chippings causing it
is this normal?
had to keep stopping ...remove power lead and prod at build up with a screwdriver

It doesn't sound normal. Was the sliding door closed on the clear plastic extraction fitting?

Also, just how big were the chips?

27mm hose right? Pushed into the clear hose adaptor? Mine blocks up sometimes, I use a 36mm hose for routing now as it slips over the hose adaptor.

woner whether a larger diameter hose will fit outside instead inside the extractor

I use the non AS version as it's more flexible (and cheaper). Cue someone pointing out about the static in the non AS hose. I know.

Use larger hose, take smaller bites, more passes. Just because you can does not mean it's the best way. If the wood is shredding your either going against the grain or taking to big of a cut.

A 36mm hose definitely helps a lot. I've clogged a 27mm hose using the OF 1400 with a 12mm radius bit, twice! I soon learned to use a bigger hose.

However, my clogs both happened right where the hose meets the dust extractor. I never clogged the shroud on the router.

I have had the plastic shroud block when using oak. It only takes one splinter to end up crossways on over the small hole in the shroud and other small splinters catch on that and suddenly it's blocked.

It does make you realise how good the dust extraction is when it stops working.

+1, smaller passes and upgrading to the 36mm hose should help this. Also make sure your spread setting is appropriate for the size but being used.

It kind of sounds like there may not be enough makeup air getting into the bit area. Your first instinct is to close the slide (door), but you may want to open it to let more air in.

But nevertheless, if your chips are 1" they are going to tend to clog pretty frequently no matter what you do.
