Hi,

Last week my new Of 1400 arrived and in the systainer there was a metal plate I have never seen before
with the OF 1400, it was never there with the other 2 Of 1400's I owned.

It fits straight to the plastic dust collector.
Someone who knows where the metal plate is used for ?

This is the chip guard which fits under the side fence.

Thanks for the reply but that is only the plastic chip guard that fits under the side fence.
I mean the metal plate, with the metal plate it does not fit any more under the side fence.

Just checked my OF1400 and there is indeed no steel plate present only the plastic chip guard.
Strange object, isn't there a number stamped in somewhere?
There are two holes recessed in the plate, do they maybe correspond with any part of the OF1400?

There is no number on the plate.
The plastic guard clicks in the 2 larger holes, I can't find any alignement with 2 other holes and the OF 1400.
My dealer also didn't know where it is used for.

Could it be for using the router in a different application, like the CMS?  It looks like it would also work to store the shroud if screwed to something.

I thought about a CMS application, but I went down to my shop and don't see anywhere that would fit Chris.

At first it looked like some sort of blast gate for the chip collector but it wouldn't be oriented the right way. Oh well, maybe on of the international members have seen it and know what it is about.

Cheers. Bryan.

Could it be for when you are using a bearing guided cutter freehand?
It does not fit the base plate of the Of 1400, I also checked if it fits the OF2200 standard base plate but this one
also has no connecting holes for the metal plate.

I know this is a stretch but... What if it is meant for jig setups?  I could see you making an mdf base with a guide fence and temporarily screwing that plate to it to get better dust extraction.

Again  I did say "stretch" but it seems that if it was in my Sys, I could use it for that.

Cheers. Bryan.

I reckon the OF1400 doesn't need the metal plate but the OF2200 does?
In the 2015 catalogue the dust extraction attachment (489565) is shared for both routers.
I went up to the workshop to try and suss the problem out and the plastic is a great fit on the 1400 side fence. When I check the OF1010 side fence the metal plate isn't quite wide enough but this accessory isn't listed as compatible but the 2200 router is.
I don't have the 2200 (yet!!) but I can see this being the answer?

Tell mee how it should fit the OF2200 ?
I have the OF2200 and I can't find a method to fit the metal plate to the OF2200 [eek]

Hi Serge
I assumed (I don't have a 2200) that underneath the side fence there would be two lugs wider apart than the plastic hood but a perfect fit for the metal plate which would then hold the plastic hood...an adaptor if you will.
This is the type of arrangement under the 1010 side fence but it would need an even wider metal plate adaptor than is provided with 489565.
Apologies if that's not the case, I was joining the dots.  [scratch chin]

We're the other tools you purchase also shipped to you?
If no, then this could simply be a shipping "rail" to prevent the plastic from snapping, from rough delivery handling.  Looks like a little overkill.  But so is everything festoon makes.

Look to me like a bracket you can mount on the wall to hang the dust collection part when not in use.

I find it strange nobody else has this plate.
If it would be used to hang the chip guard to the wall why should it have the same shape as the chip quard ?

I'm surprised that no one from Festool or the various dealers has weighed in on this yet.  I was just using my OF1400 today and it brought this to mind, so I'm still curious about the use of the metal plate.

A question for the OP:  did your new router systainer come with the anniversary badging on it?  Only asking because if it's new enough to have that on it, perhaps the metal plate will be included in the OF1400 cases going forward, perhaps for some new accessories that Festool might have in the works.  Pure speculation of course.

Looking at it again, I'm thinking that the plate and the clear housing combo could be easily made into a magnetic dust extraction portable hood for other machinery perhaps.

It is a 2015 production model but I don't have the 90 years badge, my new 2015 BS105 also has no 90 years badge,
I don't know if this badge is on the systainers in Europe.
Because nobody has this metal plate, it might be a factory test/production plate or a plate for a new accessoirie

I have an email to colleagues in Germany to see if they can shed some light on this plate.  The units we have in stock do not come with the bracket that the OP posted.
I will post any info that i receive.

Brent
