I am looking to buy a pre-owned OF 1400 EQ but see there is also a PLUS version and another with F in the model name.  Can anyone describe the differences between these models?

Thanks!
Mark

[member=71903]Markiee77[/member] plus means that there are additional accessories. Tools usually come as a basic, plus, or set depending on the accessories included.

That F was also a little puzzle for me ... fractional? Alright.

But to not include a 12 mm or 1/2'' collet for the 1400 is crazy, it was specifically designed for that size, and the tiny 8 mm should be an extra, not the default because it belongs on the smaller OF1010.

Here is the Festool Live link:=PLpBJfh9Law-BeGyB5-IGNTLwt3-7-8IUy&index=3&t=1223s

He clearly says it is included and that is from Apr 20, 2020. I am confused.

Don't listen to what "a" guy says in a video, read the descriptions on the Festool website and on those of dealers.

Mine is sitting in front of me, it arrived yesterday. It says OF 1400 EQ-F-Plus. It also does include a 1/2” collet.

In the U.S. the OF1400 set includes three collets, 1/4", 8mm and 1/2". It also includes the dust extraction "hood", a set of rods for attaching both the edge guide and rail adapter as well as a dust collection cup for edge routing and a "Porter Cable" template bushing mounting insert. (This is from memory but I checked out our OF1400 at work today and recently my own personal one). BTW, the OF1400 edge guide had a significant price increase and so did the guide rail attachment. They are still great accessories.

Thanks! That means the Festool USA website is either wrong or the assumption is that the 1/2 collet is part of the router and therefore not listed under the "Includes" section. Maybe the later. BUT the website for OF 1010 lists both 1/4'' and 8mm.

The Festool websites around the world could use some work. There are many entries that contain insufficient information or cut and pasted information that is wrong. I am not trying to demean Festool here, but their website does not match the quality of their products....the search function is abysmal.

Well I certainly understand your precarious political position...however I will gladly grab the torch and definitely demean Festool for their lackadaisical attitude towards their concern for correct web information. It's been an ongoing story line for the last 6-7 years. It's truly bizarre considering their German heritage and the opportunity that Covid 19 has presented. While most web sites are reloading and refining their information because it is a down-time and a great opportunity to "get things done" Festool just plods along in the same way they've ventured in the past.

I've contacted the Festool web contacts numerous times with examples of broken links, incorrect photos, incorrect product descriptions, incomplete .pdf files and all was for naught. After years of trying I simply gave up...  [crying] [crying]

What else do you do?

Yes, their websites need some work. A lot actually. I know back in 2008 - 2010 they had a marvelous and simple website and you could find everything with great ease and precision.

And now? Looks pretty. But finding what you're looking for?

No.

Funny thing is mine actually had 2 1/4” collets, 2 8mm collets and 1 1/2” for a total of 5???

I can’t believe I forgot to order the edge guide, oh well.

I have a follow up question to this thread.  I'm looking at getting an OF 1400, and Festool's website has me confused.

The US website shows two variants of the 1400:
  • OF 1400 EQ-F-Plus
  • OF 1400 EQ-Plus
Here's the comparison on the website:

I would much rather have the EQ-Plus and give up the systainer in favor of the edge guide and template guide, but it doesn't seem to be available anywhere.

Does anyone know if the EQ-Plus variant is actually available? Or is it a discontinued or not-yet-released configuration?

Also, the photos for the EQ-Plus seem to show the router being used is an OF 1400 EBQ, and the pics for the EQ-F-Plus include photos of both the OF 1400 EBQ and the OF 1400 EQ.  I assume this is just them reusing the photos from their library, as the model with the brake isn't available in the US.

Thanks much.

Yes, you can't trust their photos, they will use whatever they have at hand as long as it's close.

Always read the descriptions, VERY careful.

Can't help you on the website, Festool has now Cookie walled their websites (why make the content good, when instead we will block you from viewing them unless you consent to cookies).  But what I can sorta see there is interesting as in a different thread people were pushing the idea that "F" was for "imperial" (and there was some basis to that), but this is making it look like it must mean something else as there is only "imperial" routers in the US.  I think it should say something like OF 1400 -F and OF 1400 -F Plus,  to show kit verses not kit

Yeah, I thought F was an odd distinction in this case.  I think I figured it out, though, and I think the people taking "F" to mean "imperial" were right.

I believe the non-F version is the old metric US version - why it's still on the website, I couldn't say.  Years ago (as in pre t-lock systainers) the OF 1400 came with the edge guide, but I don't think it has in a long time.

I think maybe the reason that version doesn't show as coming with a systainer is that it didn't come with a SYS 4 TL and the old, original systainer it came with just isn't showing on the product comparison. So from that list it looks like it doesn't come in a Systainer - which isn't true, but the Systainer it came in wasn't a SYS 4 TL.

Somehow I missed this in the product description the first time:

Thanks - without your reminder of the F=Imperial theory, I probably wouldn't have caught that line in the product description.
