I picked up an OF 1400 router a couple of months back and am really enjoying it however I am wondering if the spindle may be warped or if this is normal. Whenever I loosen the spindle to remove a bit I use the supplied wrench to loosen it off and then after two spindle rotations the splindle locks up and I once again need to use the wrench. Is this normal? This happens on both the 1/4" and the 1/2" collets

Also wondering about a "whooshing" sound in the router after I am finished with a cut and the bit has stopped.

This router IMO is by far the best router out there. I couldn't be happier with it. It really gives me allot of confidence and control compared to my older PC router

TIA

Dan,
The behavior you're seeing is normal.  Think of it as a 2 stage procedure.  After the initial turn to loosen the collet, it is designed to self release the bit.  That's what you're feeling when it tightens back up and then releases again.  I'm not sure what the whooshing is.

Dan,

Does that whooshing sound have anything to do with the dust collector continuing to run for a few seconds once the router is stopped?

It isn't the dust collection. Sounds like bearings or something.

Dan, I just uploaded a video to my site, it is me running the 1400, so you can hear what it should sound like, link : OF1400 sound

Thanks Brice. Once mine winds down I hear a noise "bearings" spinnings for another two or three seconds. I don't hear it in your video

Thanks

Hi Rick

Your right and I am a goof! ::)

It was the pilot bearing on the router bit. Put a straight bit on the router and it worked flawlessly.

Thanks for the input guys
