OF 1400 Universal bushing adapter

Dropped in my universal bushing adapter the other day for the first time only to find it to be off center with the shaft  [sad]. Don't see any way to  adjust this. The sub (clip catching ring) base has two screws as well as 2 fixed alignment pins. I can visibly see the screw holes for mounting this (sub base ring) part are out of alignment. The other day, at my local Woodcraft store, I saw different sized bushings for the OF 1400. These bushing all have that same integrated clip system as the universal bushing adapter. I thought to myself... "Dang, they're useless"  [sad]

My Ask Festool: "Can this be corrected via service request?"
 
Hi. There are quite a few posts regarding this issue with the OF1400 on this site. I am in the same boat as you with mine. You can do some searching on the subject, but here's a recent thread on the issue. I had not used my OF1400 with guide bushings except for a jig I built to make small circles, which seemed fine, but folks using the OF1400 are finding issues when trying to use jigs to get accurate dog holes....give this a read.

The irony here is that Festool sells centering mandrels for their routers.
Is bushing holder in OF 2200 and 1010 designed differently?
 
You can certainly adjust the OF1010 very easily and it is designed for users to do this.

I take it OF2200 and 1400 are not adjustable.

I don't own a 2200 but the 1400 is not adjustable. It just snaps into 2 little pawls and how they hold it is where it sits. The 1010 is adjusted with counterbored screws.

To some extent. I took the advice from your videos and this forum to buy the Leigh 704R. Some folks seem to have difficulties aligning the Festool universal plate.

Seems like the wiggle room for adjustment on OF1010 is minimal. Not sure it was even intended. Oversight of a critical function by designers. Nothing that can't be fixed by the user, but still.

How could this fixed centering alignment issue carry over to RTM? You don't manufacture a tool knowing this issue exists, do ya? The OF 1400 has a feature that is practically useless. My OF 1400 is just 2 years out of box, if you purchase a new one today is this centering alignment still as issue?
 
The centering mandrel arrived today so I went ahead with my idea for a centering MOD on my OF 1400. I thought if I had access to the mounting screws through the universal adapter I could make use of the centering mandrel. First the alignment pins would have to go (correction: actually "nonalignment" pins in my case). Since the alignment pins were easily removed (pulled them out with my fingers) That was easy, I assumed and thought for sure they would have been press fit into the base. And with the pins removed there is more then enough movement for centering. Next I drilled the access holes for the mounting screws through the universal bushing adapter. Setup the mandrel and centered the template guide. Though I would prefer 3-4 screws to mount the base cause once the alignment pins are removed... 2 screws?...hmmm. Anyway I should get this field tested over the weekend. Looks a promising work around.

Do we  think the two screws alone are enough to hold the adapter centered?

Adapter on my Bosch is held by 2 screws. Seems OK. Can you drill and tap additional holes? In place previously occupied by misalignment pins?
