Has anyone by chance upgraded from some brand of 3hp router to the QF 2200 and no regrets. Considering the big price difference I’m curious if others have taken the plunge and shelled out the huge amount to buy one. I own a Scheer HM 18 which is simply unstoppable but a real pain to set up. I don’t need a QF 2200 at all. I just like them, however, they are seriously expensive compared to something like a Makita 3 hp router.

I gave away a big DeWalt router (not sure HP) and bought a 2200. The 2200 is a beast! But, it’s a very well engineered beast. It is amazingly smooth, powerful, and easy to set up. It’s got perfectly fitting accessories. I think Festool checked all the boxes with this machine.

I have used two PC 7518 for probably 20 years now, one in my self made router table, the other with and oversize base and auxiliary handle for pattern routing.  I have two 2200s, bought to replace the free hand PC and to use in a tandem table consisting of two VLs joined back to back with a small middle section.  I built this so I can cope and stick without re positioning.  The dust collection on the 2200 is amazing, like it is for all the Festool routers.

I have a 3hp Porter Cable in my table, and used 2 1/4 HP DW618s before getting a OF2200.  I pretty much haven't used the DW618s since, except for the dovetail jig where I think the 2200 is just too big.  The dust collection is great.  The height adjustment is great.  It's just a joy to use the OF2200.  I also have a 1010, which I use for LR32, edge trimming, and sometimes when I want something smaller.  The OF1010 is a nice router, but the OF2200's ergonomics are in a league of their own.

I have a pretty ridiculous amount of routers, mostly dedicated to a specific bit/purpose. The big 3 1/4hp Triton in the table does the heavy lifting.  The handful of 2 1/4hp routers all have their own different jobs, as well as all of the small/trim routers. The OF1400 and the OF1010 are the only ones really free to do odd jobs. Their versatility makes them the most useful and I have not yet come across a situation that they couldn't handle. The dust collection is an added bonus, none of the rest even make an attempt it, except the Makita and it has an odd sized fitting that I still haven't found a good solution for.
