Will this router be able to cut out door locks and cut worktops ?

I have a Makita 3612 which is okay but quite vibey. I would love to get a Festool router, I use mine mainly for kitchen worktops, doors/lock etc and have a little Bosch Palm router for hinges and small stuff, which is agreat little tool.

I don't suppose the OF1400 could cut out a door lock for a 3" lock could it? as the Makita can't so I have to resort to an auger.

Hi,
I use my OF1400 for worktops and hinges (Trend hinge jig) I dont use a router for locks, im sure someone else will be able to answer that one for you..

John..

If you do a lot of work tops and locks especially in oak I would go with the OF2200 it's a beast that will handle anything!
I think Dan on here has the 1400 and he has sold his and getting the OF2200 because he found the 1400 didn't have enough power for worktops really.  That's why I made the video using the OF2200 bcos he asked me if it could handle the job and is it any good.

I'm not sure if this is available for you; however, I use the Classic Engineering boring jig to prep the door for lock sets and deadbolts.  The link is http://www.boringjigs.com/.

I make a lot of bespoke hardwood doors, oak and sapele mainly, and the OF2200 chews through it with ease.

I dont have the OF1400 but when I was making the choice for the new router I spoke to Festool UK and having described what I needed it for I was advised to go for the OF2200.

Never regretted the choice.

The 1400 is ok if you do worktops "occassionally" it is a great router and will do the job, but i cut tops all the time and for me it isnt powerful enough, i have recently sold it and will be getting the 2200 very soon!

Hi
I have the OF1400 the OF2000 and the OF2200 they will all handle worktops and locks but as others have said it really depends how often you will be using them
If you are using then in a business it will pay you to buy the biggest it just has so much more power
