Hello all,

I had a foolish accident yesterday and I let my OF 1400 drop from my workbench.  It turned almost upside-down during the flight and hit the floor top side corner first.  Almost spooked a sh*t out of me.

Afterwards I checked the tool for a damage and at first I noticed only scratches on the top and I was relieved a bit.  Then I took a good grip from the frame and the base  and twisted the frame side to side  and back and forth to see if  there is any extraordinary movement...  And there was. Sideways there is clear sloppiness which I measured approx 0.25mm at the tip of the collet. This sloppiness goes away when the raiser lock is tightened.

Is my half year old tool now ruined or is the sloppiness a feature? Didn't take a notice before the accident. Warranty is over for sure.  :'(

Sorry this happened.  Few things more frustrating than user error damage.  Can't comment on the extent of the problem without seeing the tool first hand, but in general, any slack in a router is bad and, moreover, dangerous, so I wouldn't try to turn it on if there were a bit still in the collet.

All may not be lost, though.  I had a similar accident with my TSC55 a couple of months ago, where it fell off the piece I was cutting and smacked on the concrete floor of my shop, cracking the base.  Called up Festool service and they agreed to fix everything, charging me only the unit cost of a new base.  Labor and shipping were covered by the 3 yr all-inclusive Warranty (like yours, my tool was 6 months old).  The shipping was done through my local dealer, though, so I don't know if you might be made responsible for freight charges should you undertake to ship it on your own.

Just call service and see what you can work out.  If Festool Finland is like FestoolUSA, you should be ok, provided the repairs are straightforward.

Thanks for your reply.  I did exactly as you instructed and the result was more than satisfying.  Because of the Service ALL included 3 year warranty,  Festool agreed to cover all the repair costs fully including transportation both ways eventhough I clearly stated that it was my bad. All included really means ALL.  I Could not be happier!

After all the crazy Kapex stories, it's very reassuring to hear that Festool came through for you.

Thanks for posting.

Got the router back from the service.  Judgement was that my router is just fine as it was.  A little slack between the bars and the sliding sleeves are normal and a designed feature. Also they checked that the router is aligned vertical and base is square as should.

I have to say  I am impressed about the service.
