I dropped my FS800 guide rail onto a concrete floor on Monday - and it landed on the corner  :o

The damaged corner is compressed/bent upwards - not too big, a triangle about 10mm on each side, but the saw snags on it. Is it worth trying to bash/bend it back, or would I be better just cutting/filing the damaged bit off so there's no obstruction to the saw?

Both sound good to me. Filing would be less invasive, maybe try it first, THEN cut it off if it doesn't work.

Hey Jonny
I think you should try putting the rail between 2 pieces of wood and putting that in a vise.

hope this helps

Being a clumsy, left-handed, @*$* I did the same thing when installing the wooden floor in my workshop - the purpose being to protect all the things I drop from the original concrete floor.  I was able to bend the rail back and then file it a bit.  It no longer looks very good, but its still better than the rail I cut through when the saw jumped!

My vote is to cut off, round over and say that it is your personal answer to having the cord and DC hose snag on the guide rail. Post pictures here and you would be surprised as to how many people follow suit.

Jonny,
I did the same thing to one of my guide rails a while back, and bent a corner.  I used a file to smooth it down and it doesn't seem to be affecting functionality.

This seems to be a popular blunder!!  Maybe someone should invent a "guide-rail booty" or something -- a rubber cap that covers the end of the guide rails for times like this!
