Ohishi stones?

I have been reading the many opinions across the web on sharpening stones.  Seems like some such as Shapton Pro's and Sigma's are hard to get in all grits.  Wondering if anyone on FOG has opinions on Ohishi?  I have seen positive references about them, but wonder what others think>

I have not used the Ohishi, but must ask why you believe it important to have more grits than available from, say, Shapton?

For most waterstones, one needs three grits - coarse (around 1000), medium (around 5-6000), and fine (8-13000).

One can even jump grits, such as I start with a medium stone when the blade is freshly hollow ground. Or, sometimes I just re-fresh the edge on green compound (rubbed on hardwood, not leather).

I don't have any experience the Ohishi stones, I found they're a bit difficult to find in the US. However, Lee Valley carries the Sigma Power Select II on their site.  The grit spreads are pretty good (1000, 3000, 10000, and 13000) and they're decently priced IMO.  If you're okay using Sigma's, I'd suggest that.

Thanks, what I meant was that many of the grits seem to be out of stock.  I looked at the Sigma's at Lee Valley but they are out of the 3000, and going from 1000 to 10000 seems like a big jump.  Same with Shapton's, which are my first choice.  Having a hard time finding anything between 1000 and 10000.  I first looked for the Shapton Pro's, then the Sigma's.  Could not find much on the Ohishi's.

I have not used the Ohishi, but must ask why you believe it important to have more grits than available from, say, Shapton?
