Ok UK, T-15 (old model) vs T-18?

I picked up a T-15+3 yesterday at a discounted price, and but a few moments ago the release dates were announced for the new models. Comparing the two which do you think is a better choice considering size weight and torque differences? How do the T-18's stack up against competition 18v drills? I'm aware of the huge difference in overall quality, smoothness of drive, noise, chuck adaptability, but is there an over all power difference? one that would be a significant advantage over the previous T-15 and 18v competitors?

What's your take? Should I return my T-15 for store credit and reserve a T-18? or will the increase in price only give me a nominal performance advantage?

Also, while these questions are legitimate, do they win me another cxs?

from what i have heard, the price difference is so small (€38 over here) that it would be silly not to take the T-18.
but now that you already have a T-15, i would use it as much as possible within the trial period and see if you need that little extra edge.
otherwise i don't think festool is gonna give you a CXS if you are thinking of returning a tool because the new version got announced!  [tongue] (hey festool, i just save you a return  [wink] )

Return Return Return!     My dealer said they are unreliable  he recommends the T18 as they are far more reliable  he said he cant believe festool released the T15 with the amount of problems they have had with them in the UK.  

I am an owner of the T15 since it was released and I have had mine gone into repair 4 times  and it needs to go into repair again as its playing up!  DeanSocial has not had much luck with his either.

Yes its a lovely drill to use and it has some power and I do love it but it does break down alot!   It is the best drill on the market its just a shame it breaks down!  I have been told by my dealer he has not had any problems YET with the T18 so fingers crossed they might of sorted the problem but he has told me a few times to not buy the T15.

There is very little difference between the T15 and the T18. In fact there is so little difference that practically speaking you won't notice it. So it's really no use to swap the T15 for a T18.

As for the competition, it depends on which drills you compare it to. Take for instance Bosch, they make a couple of different models within one line.

First you have for instance a 14.4 v model like this one:

As far as the T15 goes, it is a very good overal competitor for this model.

But when you compare the T15 to a Bosch model like this one:

Then you'll find the Bosch is a whole lot stronger. A lot bigger and heavier too btw. I'm also familiar with the Protool 18 volt model and that one is a whole lot stronger than the T15 too, and since the T18 and T15 are almost the same the Protool is also a lot stronger than the T18.

So, when comparing it with competitors, keep in mind that there's a difference between their 'common' models and their 'powerhouse' models. The T15 and T18 stand very good against the common models but not against the powerhouses. Festool doesn't make a powerhouse drill, they make those under the Protool line.

I haven't heard anyone else complain about the T15 but you two, and I haven't had any problems myself with it either. So either Festool reserved the batch of melons for the UK, or UK people just don't know how to treat them  [wink].

Ha Well how many UK fog memebers own a T15 here?    Also my dealer as you know is Rexcrystals told me him self he thinks they have alot of problems! Call him up ask him your self!!   and the thing is I never bought the T15 from him  so he has had no dealings with my T15 as I didnt know of him at the time!      I bought my T15 from a different dealer my local dealer 5 mins from me who properly has only ever sold that one festool tool he aint a very good festool dealer more a bosch dealer!

my dealer told me the first batch all had screwed up electronics,
