I thought my C12 batteries had simply died. However, after getting new batteries, it turned out the C12 itself was dead. Festool service said my almost 5 year old C12 needs a new electronic card. (Good thing the possible sale a couple of months ago did not work out. That would have been embarassing).  The cost will be about $100 plus shipping.

I have a T 15 +3 (kit) and a CSX (along with a couple of old pre Festool devotion Dewalts). The C12 batteries will power the T15 and the accessory chucks would be useful on a new drill I believe.

So, should I get the C12 repaired or put the money towards something like a new T 18? I am leaning towards repair, but I am also nervous that something else could go wrong.

I also have the T15 and CSX and find them to be a great combination.  I'm surprised how much I use the CSX with the T15 for backup and big stuff only.  I don't think I will need the T18 based on my own needs.  Like you, I'd lean toward repair.

I would repair it.  Are you sending it to Festool for repair?  I sent mine in a while back and it came back looking new as was attested to on a recent post by other experiences.  Good luck.

The fundamental question is, "Why do anything at all?"  What would you use it for?

I also have a new CXS and an old C12, but mine still mostly works.  OTOH, one of the tabs on the C12 where you attach the right angle attachment has broken off.  It works, but it's not as solid.  And the right angle attachment itself is damaged to the extent that it can no longer be connected to the C12.  I should buy the parts to fix them, but...

I've been wrestling with buying a T18 kit instead.  However, I use my Makita 18V impact driver for driving big screws, the CXS for most drilling and driving smaller screws, have a cheap, large corded drill for drilling really big holes, and a new drill press for more precise woodworking.  About the only thing I'd use a T18 for would be to drill medium-to-large holes where a corded drill would be difficult or impossible.  So I'm going to wait until the need presents itself before buying a T18.

Regards,

Dan.

I think if you're going to keep the C12, then it's worth having it fixed.  Otherwise, sell it for parts to Dan Clark.  [big grin]

OK  I will take a chance and have it repaired. It is at Festool Service so I will have them do the work.

Thanks
