Hi there,
First time posting here and first festool as well!
My boss has kindly donated me his old C12 drill but said that I need to get new batteries as the ones that came with it are dead.
Will I be able to restore this drill to its former glory or is it a bit of a gamble?
I saw lots of third party replacement batteries and few available genuine batteries here in the UK.
Any recommendations?
Thanks

If only the cells are dead... with the right equipment (and knowledge!) you can put in new cells yourself.

I rebuild a Bosch Procore 18v 4Ah battery recently. I acquired it for free. Now functions as new.

Sadly the spot welder price means I have to do some more to break even  [tongue], but the rebuild only cost me €20 in cells.  [big grin]

C12 is kinda dead platform. Besides the drill there is nothing else. Some 18v tools might work with the 12v battery, but with reduced performance.

Buying new NiMH batteries isn't really worth it. Machine still stays bulky. Usually better off with new 12V drill with compact 12V Lithium batteries.

I have a TDK 15.6... it functions. But the some thing can be done with about half the weight and half the size in new 12V.

How old is old? Festool still sells Lithium Ion batteries for drills manufactured after 2008. Might be worth calling Festool during working hours and ask them.

A quick Google search appears to show there may be replacements available "out there".

Do you have the truly older C12 for NiCd / NiMh  or the old C12 for LiOn ?

It's the older one with NiMh batteries

Yeah I hear that, it looks like it's gonna be about £100 for two batteries. I might as well put that towards a new drill and at least I'm confident it will work well and have a warranty.

It's a good drill and there are knock off batteries "out there". Take a chance on one. Sure they are probably Chinese, but I have had plenty of luck with the stuff from Ali Express and there is one listed there at $40. Looks like there is a $3 and $2 coupon as well (not sure if you can use both). Not much of a gamble at that price.

This is the NiMH type.

Ah yes. That is important to know too.

Older batteries work on newer tools, not the reverse.
