OLD - Parf Dogs

For Kev and Sancho and any other left handed chaps and chapesses...

I frequently find myself using my TS55 on the rail left handed (I am right handed) and I have no real problem. There have been a number of threads, here on the FOG, where people have speculated that the rails were designed by a left handed German. I admit to being very slightly ambidextrous but with the guide rail I would have thought that anyone ought to be able to do this sort of thing with either hand.

Despite what I have said, if you are left handed and do not feel safe then do not attempt to cut wood!

For everyone in North America and Australia and anywhere else where the sun shines bright - it is raining again here in my part of the UK.

Take care guys,

Peter

Hi Peter,

It could be more of a "me" thing than a lefty thing then. I have what almost feels like a "negative premonition" when handling a power tool with the potential need to steady the work in a (for me) awkward manner - awkward in that I would attempt to cross over my arms while using a power tool in my left hand to steady a piece of work or a cutting edge.

Am I over thinking this? Yes, probably - but that's how my mind works  [embarassed]

I do like how RMW's approach locks in place - possibly longer task execution time, but personally less fear for me.

All said - my MFT/3 doesn't travel - so it is probably moot for me  [smile]

Cheers,

Kev.

Huh! I really like the music... them parf dogs are the coolest thing. Built a bookcase in the field the other day and having these would have saved me considerable time. Let's wait and see when its available on this side of the pond. Maybe Uncle Bob will bite, or maybe I can have some made here on the Island.

Peter,

I cut my wood in a CLOCKwise direction. It works everyTIME  [smile]

Oh Sancho - Disaster...

My Festool watch has stopped working. I have not damaged it and it has not been dropped. I can only assume that the battery has given up. I know that it has been a key member of my Festool team and so no more woodwork for me until it is fixed! This is a bad time for me but at least it is able to tell me the exact time twice a day - in fact it can tell the exact time in every time zone twice a day - not many watches can claim that!

Hi Pugilato

I think that Intelligent Workshops can help you out whilst you wait for someone on your side of the Atlantic to start making them. I am sure that Bob Marino would love to have some stock right now.

Ohhh Nooooo Peter, TIME is of the essence. I would have sut down my production immediately ran to the watch Emergency Room ( after I stopped by that western store and tried on a pair of boots before their closing TIME). I would be pacing back and forth in the lobby of of the watcherpair shop being  comforted by my friends and family. Lets hope it isnt fatal.

Edited to add:

peter remember it is a festool, where a normal watch battery would cost you about $5 being a festool it will cost you $2500…….

But it would be worth.ß

Sancho

The watch is working again - I just threatened it with a Parf Dog - Woof!

Peter

Oh man, I feel better now. I knew it would be just a matter of TIME and it would be ticking away again.

Now I can relax.

BTW its raining here to today.

cant wait for some on the job feed back. hope to see some exta odd uses fro these. im on the fence so to speek ,awaiting a use that cant be done with the dogs iv got already.
so get dreaming  , i want to get down off of the fence

hey peter if the watch stops again donate it to parliament at least we would get the truth twice a day !! parf dogs look good.

The watch is working brilliantly - it just needed a new battery - this country needs a bit more than a new battery to get it going...but we should stay away from politics!

Thank you for the comment about the Parf Dogs. They have solved a number of issues for me. I have been away all day today and only needed to take a bare MFT3, 1400mm rail, TS55 and a pair of Parf Dogs and bench dogs (plus a hammer, a chisel, a screwdriver...).

I am looking forward to all of the new uses that users will discover over the coming months.

Thanks again.

Peter

Parf Dogs is short and simple - a bit like me really - and is now being used throughout the known Universe; there is a rumour that there is a planet around a small star in Andromeda that may not adopt the name as they pronouce their 'P' like an English 'F' and their 'F' like an English 'T'. There is no accounting for taste!

Peter,

It took me a while but I got it.

i really do like those dogs.

Im going to be out of the pocket for a while but Im going get me a couple when I get back and get busy again.

I think it's unlikely you will find a dealer over there carrying these any time soon pugilato.  Delivery from us in the UK to Puerto Rico would be £8

Perhaps someone could try this one out...

If you regularly want to cut large lumps of wood or ply and have thought about an extra large MFT top why not get a big piece of MDF, cut just 4 x 20mm holes (2 across the top and 2 down at right angles) and use the top two for the back rest bench dogs and the other two for the Parf Dogs. Bingo, you have as big an MFT top as you want and you do not need to drill more than 4 holes (unless you need more for other purposes).

Take care.

Peter
This is exactly what I had in mind when ordering them...

Gosh, Epicxt, you do move around a lot. I have just posted a reply to you on another thread.

Good luck with the Parf Dogs - let us know how you get on with them.

I think that someone should run a competition to see who can demonstrate the most brilliant use for the Parf Dogs - we would need photos... Perhaps the 1000th Parf Dog order should be free of charge!

Tom...TOM...Hello Tom...He may not be answering...

Peter
