Older photos disappearing???

Is anyone else having trouble with older photos disappearing? I went back to some old threads and, when I click on a thumbnail, the image disappears instead of enlarging. This is what I see AFTER having clicked on the bottom thumbnail image:

In this example I have not clicked on the top thumbnail, everything looks normal. It is not happening consistently, other images later in this same thread have no problem.

Also, if I reload the thread the thumbnails appear normal, click one and the same thing happens. This is the specific post:

There was a server crash or some sort of catastrophic event some years ago in which a lot of older photos were corrupted or completely lost.

Had to be worse than that!!!  I look at photos of me then and now, and I don't look the same either...  [scared]

I see the thread you talk about is newer than the crash I mentioned. Same happens here, the picture disappears. Seems like last weeks outage has done some damage also.

On that thread that you listed any photo in a post before July 2013 disappears.

On a lot of other threads early photos don't even appear as thumbnails and I just assumed that that was normal.

So was mine. Tried cache clearing but that didn't work for the avatar. I reloaded it and it is back now.

I was specifically referring to the avatar.

As far as the photos ......... I do not know what is happening with some of them.  I just  looked at some pre 7/13 threads and the photos are still in them.

It appears that only thumbnails are affected. If it was loaded as full size it is still there.

Lots of posts missing photos now. Is something being done to "get them back" or will the threads forever be missing them?

Yeah, I actually see most thumbnails, but once you click, it gets replaced with nothingness.

I get this feeling too. Seems they have not replaced him with a capable webmaster.  [huh]

I don't believe that Shane's replacement has been hired as of this time.

Would someone post a link or two to a thread here where the images have disappeared.  I really don't feel like searching.  We don't need 10 threads, just a couple.

A bunch of avatars have disappeared including mine. Reloading it seems to fix that particular problem.

A photo from an older post disappeared, yet the thumbnail remained.  Had to upload a replacement full-size photo.
