Why not look on it as an oportunity to treat yourself to the new ts55r which is launching very soon in the US ?
Problem is this accident happened a couple months too soon, he needs his now!
I also have good experience with our Festool repair service, sent in my out of warranty Kapex because the engine was dead worn. They replaced everything that was broken, new engine, new bearing and new plastic body, the estimate they gave me was half what i was fearing and now mine is as new. It seems like they don't make profit on the repairs, while they could seriously screw you over like some other brands do.

I am sure that Festool understands very well that when they give a toy owner a break on repairs, they will have one happy camper who will spend lots on new toys.

The knowledge that Festool will service your broken item quickly and at a very reasonable price was the main reason that my shop is now filled with Festool products.

Hearing these stories about damage to Festoys and the immediacy of attention and very reasonable repairs leads me to think that Festoys are NOT all that expensive.  I have not considered this so much for my WW'ing hobby, but when i was in construction, and now in landscaping, i long ago learned to look at the dealers shop and rep for service before buying any equipment.  I am seeing the same with Festool.

Cheap ain't cheap and expensive ain't always a burden

I got my saw back about 2 weeks after I sent it in.  Got a call from Festool and was charged $95.  I sent a detailed explanation of what happened and what areas to check for damage.
Much to my surprise, when I got the saw back, I noticed that there were still bent and cracked parts on the saw. These were important parts that tilt and support and weight of the saw, so I new they had to be replaced.  I called Festool back and they sent me a shipping label to return the saw.
About a week and a half later, I got the saw back and now, things are all good.  I guess I expected Festool repair to be more thorough and was somewhat disappointed that they had missed the obviously bent and cracked parts, despite my calling attention to them.
I'm not turned off to Festool.  They took responsibility and corrected the issue at their expense. Besides, it was my fault in the first place, that this whole thing happened.  I put new chip guards on my rails to account for the probable new cut, so I'm off and running.  Just thought you'd like to know how it all turned out.

Its a shame that the job was not done 100% the first time. But in this day and age where little is repaired, its just thrown away, its good to see that it is possible and ecomical enough to repair such an old machine.

I was afraid the cost would be higher than it was.  Considering the initial cost of the saw, I for sure Festool repairs would be sky high, but I was please to have an affordable repair.  I think if I ever have another repair, I'll be much more specific in my description of the issues and mark the parts for replacement, as I did the second time around.

What slipped through the cracks here is that an ATF55 saw is not under warranty repair. For Festool to replace non-critical components would be tantamount to bringing your car in to have new tires installed, and the shop deciding to replace the brakes and shocks in the process--at your expense.

If they had replaced non-warranty parts without authorization, that would be a complaint.

Not replacing non-warranty parts without your authorization is just an oversight on what you expected them to do versus what they did to correct a problem.

If I brought a car in to have the tires replaced, and they replaced the brakes too, then I would be furious about the extra unauthorized charges.

Rick,
I'm sure you're totally right here.  That said, the parts that were missed were the bent and cracked tilt mechanism.  I don't think those parts are non-essential, but what do I know.  At any rate, I'm happy that they got the parts replaced and at no further expense to me.  That was a classy gesture.

im not sure i agree.
changing a tire is a different situation.
if you sent in your car after an acisent and asked them to fix it . you would expect the car to be fixed and in good working order when you got it.
i understand where you are coming from but they should have coped the damage and rang or emailed asking what to do about it

Just want to repeat here...I'm not a hater!  I was bummed that they didn't catch everything the first time, but pleased that they made good and didn't charge me more for the extra parts replacement.  For that, I commend them.  That's good business.  I'll just be more specific as to the repair, the next time I send something in.
I won't hesitate to purchase more Festool, because now I know their support is what it should be. To me, these are lifetime tools and I think that's the way Festool looks at it as well.

Not sure if this will be worldwide but festool are now saying if a part is no longer available a new tool will be given for free , I know this will not help now but look long term as these tools do last .

From what I read, this is only true for tools bought/registered after March 6th, 2013 and only goes for like 10 years after the purchase. At least that is what the say on the german website.
