Opening small cases in Centrotec Bit Sets

To those who have ordered the Centrotec Bit Assortment there are two small boxes in the assortment. One has brad point bits, the other Phillips bits. At first inspection I thought them very hard to open, but noted a scissor symbol on the bottom of each case. There is a small tab that must be removed. The cases are then very easy to open. This would be easy to miss and I thought I would give a heads up.   This is one well thought out set.

I"m with James on this one.  It is a very well thought out set that will keep one drilling and driving for a long time.  I was removing some interior trim from my Toyota Previa "furniture delivery van" last night and found the Phillips bits from this set fit the screws far better than the Phillips screw driver from my S&K set.  Both claim to be Phillips head, but the one from the set is far better formed and fitted than the fancy expensive screw driver with the S&K green handles.  I keep several of the wire detent Roberston drive bits around so now just throw them into this set as well.  Both the brad point and the standard point drill bits appear to be formed from exceptionally good material as I have yet to dull either even when drilling with the standard point into some very hard steel that dulled a bit out of one of the cheapy gazillian bit sets in short order.  With the Festool bit I just marched right through the stuff.  I especially like the replaceable nature of the small bits.  I use the 3mm bits all the time for pilot holes for both 6 and 8 screws so they get a lot of use.  Periodically I knock over the drill or drop it with a bit in place and have broken several that way.  With the replacement feature I just pull out a new bit and am good to go again.  Good job Festool!

I think Festool Marketing Dept. should get off their hands and post some better detail photographs of this set. I am sure that would help them sell many more units. It is really not clear what all the package contains from the product release photos. I know that their is a published list of parts; but better photos would help! The drill holders are very very  nice! I think it is a fine piece of kit but it should have some vacant spaces in the bottom compartment for the other Festool countersinks and self- centering bits. I also own the old Festool SYS MINI-HIQ Montage Set 1 System Novadrive  #491 752 "pre Centrotec" that they sold in Europe and this is a nice improvement. Chad

Since you have bought this set.  Can you tell me more about the replaceable feature.  Do they give you extra bits?  I have been thinking baout the set, but know there is a bunch O stuff I just wouldn't use.  But I like what is in half of the set, at least I think so from what I read.

I wouldn't post this here except....hey there is a good shot of the set that Trevor took pre-child.  It has a nice view of the ixtry bits:  Centrotec Set in the Festool Junkie Gallery on FOG

Move this post if you need to Matthew,

Timmy C

Trev just called, he is coming in today.  I will see if he can get some better close up action goin' on!

For those of you who have Excel, this may help you with your decision to buy this set.  Update column B with Y or N if the particular component is useful to you.  In my case, it isn't a good value --- but very close!  Note this doesn't give any value to insert or packaging which is not really fair.  I still may buy if I can convince myself I need Torx or Pozidrive bits.  I have scanned with Norton A/V but you should scan as well if you download this file!

Advise if any errors in the spreadsheet as I certainly make them.

6:10 PM CDT update:  Woops, 1st one of these was missing the formulae --- corrected now (I hope) -- sorry about that.

10:50 PM CDT update: Go to this thread for an updated version of the spreadsheet.

Hello all you festool owners!
First off thanks for the congrats on my first son! My wife and I appreciate it greatly! And.....Thanks to Timmy C for being such a great guy to work with, your words of wisdom and outlook on life have helped me get prepared for this event.

As you have seen here in America Festool has the fall promotion for the Centrotec bit asst. I took about 7 close ups of the case and all the bits and placed them in the all tools and accessories area of the forum. Just to make it easy to see what the sets all about.
Have a great day folks!

Trev

I now have pics and the list of bits as a jpeg so you can easily read the asst. listing. You can find them in the gallery now also, under festooljunkie gallery and temporary product gallery!

cheers

For those of you who downloaded the above spreadsheet prior to ~6:15pm CDT --- you need to download again --- formulae were missing from the earlier version.  Sorry about that!
