I have the A3 31. It's a smaller and slightly different machine but the plastic shroud that connects the dust collection hose to the flip-over dust collection hood on the machine is of similar design. The plastic part is attached to the metal hood on 2 of its 4 sides by 6 pop rivets. The other 2 sides do not seal against the metal hood. They are close, but there is a gap that allows significant loss of vacuum.

Rich,
Thanks, good advice. I will take a look at mine and see if I can close up any gaps in the shroud.

Rich4242 said:In the last picture above, with the machine in thickness planer mode, that nicely-designed hose with magnetic fittings is putting strain on the plastic shroud exactly as mine has. It needs some support to take the flexing force off the shroud.
In standard jointing mode, the collection hood outlet points much more downward, so the weight of the hose is pulling more vertically and not flexing the plastic at the pop rivet line.

In practice (not how it is shown in the picture), I loop the hose over the jointer beds to get it out of the way. I think this reduces the stress on the shroud.
Thanks,

Bob, thanks for the info on the Magports and the 5 inch Fernco coupling to adapt them to the A3 jointer/planer. Attached picture should look familiar.
The Magports are a greatly improved way to disconnect and reconnect the dust hose on my J/P.

Glad it was helpful.

Which coupler are you using? When I looked at Fenco web site and their drawing for the 1056-55 it shows an ID of 5.5 that looks way too big for a 5 inch magport or 120 mm hammer port.
Thanks
