So I was wanting to order this kit [497700]:

But I ended up ordering this kit [203408]:

I honestly wasn't paying enough attention when I placed the order - shame on me.

I ordered it through Amazon through a third party seller and it's already shipped so I'll keep it when it arrives.  I'm sure I'll find some use for this older style 36mm festool hose.  I'll chalk this up to a learning experience - very well may just keep this hose in the kit for when I actually do clean with it.

Is the only real difference between them the new style smooth hose versus the 'ribbed' old hose?

The suction head looks different, the cranked handle that you connect the hose to is plastic not Stainless Steel and the plastic handle has the twist lock hose end. The Stainless Steel handle is a straight snug fit inside the 36mm hose end.

I have had the 203408 kit for a good few years now and am still happy with it....!

Ok. Thanks. :-). I’m sure I’ll be happy with it either way. I mostly wanted the new style hose as I’m going to be using it with my track saw and the ridges of the old style hose will catch on the edges of the boards.

You likely will not have a reason to purchase another, so now would be the time to consider if you want to return this item and get the newer one, or not.

The new smooth style should be an improvement when using most any tool as it looks to be more flexible and also won't hang up on an edge. The twist-lock hose ends will fit [most?] of the newer tools, while the older hose works [better?] on the Festools you already have (think about those oval tool ports.) Tough choice.

I went ahead and ordered the new style hose stand-alone.  The goal in getting the kit was to have the kit with the newer hose - but since I screwed that up I'll just have an extra [older style] hose.

Worst case I can join the new and old together - for a really long hose - and use the old style at the vac and the new style at the tool :P.

In Europe we’re allowed (by law) to send back mistakes — indeed we’re allowed to send back items bought at a distance (internet, email, phone) without specifying any reason at all. Is there no equivalent law in the US?

That said consumer protection laws here in the US are nothing like they are in Europe.

That said - I could send it back, sure, but as this wasn't the seller's fault and my own I'm choosing not to do that.  I'm sure I'll be happy with it regardless.

[member=68651]IndyMike[/member] - I know that you went ahead and purchased the smooth hose but you mentioned that you wanted it to prevent the hose from catching on the edges of the wood as you make a cut with your track saw. Are you aware of the Deflector that Festool makes that goes on the end of the track to keep the hose from doing exactly that. I have one and it does work. Festool’s number is 489022.

I know you have ordered the new hose. You will at least be able to compare them. I suggest that you don't actually use the kit until you have both hoses. Then you can decide what you want to do. Personally I would want the new kit. The new hose is much more flexible. Which is nice for use but also if you are planning to put it into the Systainer between uses. I also prefer the plastic bent tube and even the plastic tubes (different kit). Less chance of damaging a surface if used without an attachment. Assuming the plastic is still the same , it doesn't leave black marks either.

I appreciate your input.  Thanks.

The kit and the hose are out for delivery today.  I suppose part of my issue is that if I return the kit, already having the new hose, I probably won't order the new kit and will just use my D50 hose with my pre-existing ShopVac attachments :P.
