Just saw this add when browsing the jlc forums link This way you don't need to invest in an extra battery platform and still get proper performance from cordless tools that can really use the extra power, like a cordless rotary hammer.

(Too bad I don't have any 18V makita tools, or else this would be a musthave for me)

This is the same thing that 99% of products requiring "2 AA batteries" or "4 AA batteries" do...  not exactly original.

Makita is very strong in the 18v tools in the US but has nothing in 36v. They do have some nice 36v tools elsewhere. I assume this is a way to get 36v tools but keep the same chargers and batteries that so many of us have. I think I have 25 Makita 18v batteries in various uses.

I have a few Bosch 36v tools - Circular saw, big Hammer Drill, Rotary Hammer. They are excellent. The 36v Rotary Hammer is on of my best investments. Now that they sell the 36v chainsaw as a bare tool, I may have to get one. You can't buy a non-US cordless tool kit since you have no use for a 240v charger.
