Our New Group Space!

Here are the rules I'm putting together for the raffle:

Code:
1. All members except the forum administrator and Festool ISAs can participate.
2. You must join the new Festool Owners Group to be entered in the raffle.
3. You must join the group by 12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time on February 1, 2007.
4. As your official entry, send an e-mail to matthewschenker@festoolownersgroup.com.
5. The subject line of your e-mail must read, "Raffle Entry."
6. The body of the e-mail must contain your name, address, and telephone number.

Am I leaving anything obvious out?

We're just inches away from announcing the whole thing publicly!

Thanks,
Matthew Schenker

Frank,
I suggest that to get better coverage and response to this, that it be run as 5 seperate draws, one say every 2 weeks; thus covering a ten week period.

That's a good idea!  I can see how this would build momentum.  People who missed out on one would hear about it and still have a chance to come in for the next one.

Any other opinions?

Thanks,
Matthew Schenker

So, if you do go for five raffles, the rules that you outlined in the previous post would only apply to the first raffle.  Correct?

Then you would have similar rules but different dates for the following four raffles.

Hey, I just figured out that my suggestion will mean more members get a crack at the follow-on raffles and reduce my chances of winning a Domino.  :(  Oh well. ;D

Frank,

Remember... No good deed goes unpunished!    ;D

Dan.

Good catch!

Yes, we need to have another rule in there, don't we?  The chances of one person coming up two or more times is low, but just in case, see rule #7...

Code:
5. Type "Raffle Entry" (no quotes) as the subject line of your e-mail.
6. The body of the e-mail must contain your name, address, and telephone number.
7. Only one winner per household.

Sorry if you were hoping to win two Dominoes!!

Also, I'll change the dates as we do new raffles.  So rule #3 would change to "March 1, 2007" for the second one, then "April 1, 2007" for the third one, and so on.  I'm still not absolutely certain I like doing them one at a time, but if I do, I think this is the best method.

It's a good thing I have this group looking over my work.  I'm kind of worn out after these past couple of days.

Matthew, I'm a little bleary-eyed right now (working during the day, and painting & installing crown + picture moulding at night), so maybe I missed it, but is there a folder for buying and selling stuff?  If you were going to do that, I guess the question would come up as to whether to allow non-Festool stuff to be sold.  I'll go on the record as saying that I like the idea of a folder where people can post messages about buying and selling anything related to woodworking.

BTW, tell us about your dog...or is it a poodle?  ;)

John,
Yes, he's a Standard Poodle, named Kramer (as in Seinfeld).  In my avatar, he's wearing his eye protection, which he needs when he helps me out in the shop!

Just in case the ASPCA is monitoring this board, no animals take part in dangerous activities in my wood shop!  Well, except for one strange cat who for some reason likes to perch on my MFT occasionally.  Actually, one time this cat jumped up on my band saw.
All right, that's enough about animals in the shop!

Matthew,

Top of the Poodle mornin' to ya...

Since we're talkin' Poodles, here's a pic of my two - Sammy (left) and Lucy (right) with my wife Marianne.  Both are Minature Poodles.   Sammy is 10 and Lucy is about 6 months in this pic.   Since Sammy was raised in a one-doggy household, his long Poodle-nose was out of joint pretty badly when we brought Lucy home.   In this pic, he's probably saying, "What the hell is that thing?!?"   ;D

Have a great day!

Dan

Hi All,
One more important topic to address for the new board is how to handle promotion of ISAs.  The board cannot officially sponsor or support a particular ISA, for fairness sake.

Of course, individual board members are free to support and promote any ISA they want in their messages!

I definitely want ISAs to be involved in the discussions, and I want members to have an opportunity to see who the ISAs are.  The trick is to make sure we have a level playing field for all ISAs.

Here is the simple rule I've come up with: In the body of their messages, ISAs should not promote their Web sites or sales efforts.  They can, however, identify themselves as an ISA and include a simple hyperlink to their Web sites as part of their signatures.

Does this sound fair and reasonable to everyone?

Here's what I've come up with:

ISA's (Sales Agents) may enter two lines in their signature, with the following information:

Code:
Festool Dealer
[hyperlink to the Web site or e-mail address]

I'll put this as an entry in the FAQ section of the forum.

Matthew Schenker

Matt,

I like that and think it's fair and informative. Let's readers know that the response is from a Dealer.

This proposal looks good to me.

What about members who are sales agents, manufacturers, etc. for other woodworking products?  I think that we should have them identify themselves as well.

Frank,
Good point.

The same rules should apply to all sellers: no ad copy or promotional material in the message body, but they can have a simple two-line signature.

So, XYZ Machinery can have the following signature:

Code:
XYZ Machinery
[Link to Web site or e-mail address]

This allows for a presence, keeps it small and outside the body of the message, and makes it consistent for all sellers.

One of the things I like about this new software is that, if a seller has an "illegal" signature, I can ask for an edit, and it will be changed globally in all messages by that seller.

Thanks for the comments!
