This is a project I completed a couple years back. I couldn't have done it without my TS55

I've got 14 hours in the build plus finishing

12 feet long 7 feet high

Adjustable shelves in lowers and uppers

very nice! what materials did you use...and same goes for countertop?

The carcasses and top are Birch ply with veneer core and the face frames and moldings are poplar. Not fancy but it paints great!

What kind of paint did you use here?  I have a built in that needs painting.

Brand, oil/water, etc. would be great.

Ken

The paint is Sherwin Williams Pro Classic in semigloss. Be careful when applying it is thin and runs easily.

Pro Classics is their trim and door paint. They also have a product in the back called Solo. I've never used it but have heard good things.

Oh sorry, it's water clean up latex I believe

Awesome sheen you got on the top. Sprayed or brushed? I've been using the Kem-aqua plus in white and its amazing how quick and hard it dries. I'm talking like 20 minutes its dry enough to handle. Though that pro-classic is real nice looking also.

Did you buff it at all or were you just able to apply a nice thick coat becuase it was flat and it flowed out nice?

The homeowners wanted to finish the project themselves so I installed it unfinished in the finished basement.

Two weeks later the husband gets a hold of me. "How much to come spray this?" HA

They had brushed primer and given up.

I sanded it, spent two hours masking and hanging plastic, then sprayed with an airless and an air scrubber. It has two coats nice and thick.

Long story short I sprayed it.

I've never heard of Kem-aqua plus. Any more info about it?

Kem-Aqua is a Sherwin product. It's basically a waterborne lacquer. It's really nice to work with. You can get pigmented or clear. Like already mentioned, you can handle/recoat fast!

What kind of sprayer?  I'm looking into investing in one as I have a commission to fabricate a built-in that will need to be finished on-site in a room where there is other furniture.

Great looking work.

Rule # 1 for all home owners. Never try to finish ( paint ) a built in piece like this. Spend the xtra $$ and make the piece look like a million bucks like this one does..

very nice job like the finish details and profiles that you added

Absolutely beautiful work!

Just out of curiosity did you have to contend with the carpet already in place or was it carpeted after the fact? If the carpet was already in place did you remove what would have been covered by the footprint of the built-in or did you set it on top of the existing carpet?

Again, very nice piece!

Regards,
Nick

Do you have any pictures of it in work?  I'm starting some very similar built-ins of my own soon and am trying to figure out how to deal with all the large pieces, particularly those that are over 8'.

Looks great... 14 hours to build that doesn't seem very realistic though.

It wasn't an easy build. I did it all in the owners drive. Looking back I would have taken a little more time to complete it, but all things considered I'm happy.

My sprayer is a Titan 440. It's a great little sprayer, I love it. I've done entire basements down to cabinet doors. You have to be spraying quite a bit to make it worth getting the sprayer out. It holds 1/3-1/2 gallon of product, and you have to clean it well after use.

Thanks Nick.

This project is the completion of a basement finish. We waited two years after the basement so they could get the monies together for the piece. The carpet was down, and I didn't mess with it. This was fine until I had to spray down there. I spent a lot of time hanging plastic and masking before spraying. I also put a large fan inside the "tent" with furnace filters on each side, kind of an air scrubber, it worked very well.
