I've got a bunch of door and window casings that are pretty chewed up (and have a faux wood finish painted on them from sometime in the 30s or 40s I'm guessing) that I'd like to work on. After stripping a scrap piece of it and throwing some varnish on it, the wood looks incredible. I'd hate to have to paint over these again, but am not sure what the best way is to go about filling a bunch of nail and screw holes from old curtain rods, dings, etc... and not have the patches look horribly out of place once the rest of the casings are finished up.
Any general advice? I'm happy to go read up on it, just curious to know what some of the better resources are for something like this...
