It started to make a chirp sound/  I think it gave a little chirp after its been switched on, and a longer chirp right before the motor stops spinning and maybe not every single time. Any ideas? I'd rather try and fix it than send it off.  Its an older sander without the pad protection bumper so I might just want to replace it depending on the amout of $ to fix it.  I've had it for years but thought it was no good since it bounced around so much (but my DTS, and ETS worked excellent!) After reading the FOG I tried letting it run and now, with suction all the way down (no suction may be best?!) Its my go to for casings and jambs. So, even though its an older model  but given its lack of use, I am surprised its acting up and hoping its something easy to investigate and fix.  Thanks!

Not much help here, but sounds like a bearing is worn. I've got probably the same model, old RTs without the edge protection, I've never taken any of my sanders apart to repair them, but maybe an owner will chime in who has. Have you checked EKAT to see if parts are available from Festool?

I havent used the EKAT before.  Googling EKAT festool took me to a festool USA catalog and The RTS400 EQ looks to have parts available but Its not clear how to order.

Also, the bearings say special tool next to them.  I am defineatley hoping someone can advise me on how much trouble it is to disasemble and diagnose and replace (bearings?) or whatever I see needs fixing.  Or, any idea what kind of price I'm, looking at to send it back.

Another thought is if it were to stop working on me how much trouble is it to swap and trade parts with one of my other sanders to make a working RTS.  I assume it would be easiest to trade the bottom part with the rubber seal and pad etc.

I'll keep an eye out for a good used, updated one as well, I think the protective bumper would be a good thing...

Unfortunately, not much help here either.  [smile]

You can now order directly from EKAT. On the far RH column on EKAT, there is a shopping cart symbol that you select to put the parts you want into the cart.

I wonder if the beeping is part of the overheat protection system gone awry. I first thought it was possibly a worn brush indicator warning but those usually operate on a small spring and round button and if the brushes are worn, the sander won't even turn on.

I'd pull the pad off of the bottom and clean out any of the small passageways that are under the pad. You'd be amazed at how clogged up they can get especially if you've used the paper collection bag more than the vac in the past.

I'd also suggest the judicious use of compressed air in the air vents. Be careful...you don't want to do more damage than good.
