Pattern maker lathe

The interesting thing is this doesn't look like a wood lathe, rather it looks like a metal lathe that's been modified to perform wood lathe functions.

Love the brake on the lathe...pretty impressive.

What's the reason for the degree wheel markings inside the drive pulley housing?

A precision pattern lathe is very similar to a metal lathe, patterns need to be perfect.

From what I can figure the scale on spindle pulley would be for laying out or dividing what you are turning.

A lathe like this would get stopped and started frequently to check your work, it would have to have a good spindle brake.

Gotcha, the spindle pulley would then perform a dividing head function.

As far as the brake goes, I've never operated a metal lathe with a brake. Then again I'm old school so I've only used old school equipment. I love the brake.

The precision statement you made is absolutely correct, never thought about that aspect. Kind of puts the Tyrannosaurus Rex version you exhumed last year out to pasture unless of course, you're turning columns.
