PDC gets hot

Does anybody else find that their PDC gets quite warm quite quickly and retains the heat for a long time? This is probably more of a characteristic then a problem, was using mine today only drilling 5mm holes in wood and it soon felt warm to hold. Every time I went back to use it again it was still warm. Dred to think how hot it would get if you were doing a lot of drilling in masonary. Guess it's because of the metal housing, is it ment to dissipate the heat? Makes a good hand warmer in this cold weather  [smile]

The only thing I have noticed is my one stops every now and then i have to remove the battery to make it go again

Just mine that gets hot then  [crying] have been leaving the light on a bit but wouldn't think that should cause much heat. Checked it today and it's just around the top of the handle that gets warm, sort of in the trigger area. Will give service a call tomorrow.

Thanks, Doug

Had mine for over a year, it has always gotten pretty warm. Even if it is not used much. . . Sitting around with the LED always on it is still rather warm when I pick it up.

Never found it to be an issue. And surprised that johnny says his doesn't do this. Will be interested to hear further owners opinions.

Also. The front metal housing does get scolding hot if you overuse/push the limits of the hammer function.

Hi Doug
I have emailed service to ask if there is a reason for this. If you want it looked into further then we can arrange collection and bring it in.

My pdc only gets hot if I batter it in hammer mode . I blew the tip off a new fisch ' universal ' masonary bit in no time at all , for the money I wasn't impressed, but that's another thread for the future.

Didn't use PDC much today but did keep putting the light on, it turns itself off after a while. The handle did warm up so it's the light that does it. I didn't think that an LED would cause so much heat.

My mates stops sometimes he says but only does for a split second.  He doesnt have to remove the batterie like you do though.  His kicks back in straight away.

Personally I didn't like the drill so much.  I was using his all day for few days and I find it heavy.

Love the speed and torque but just heavy.

His never got hot though.

One thing I did think is crap about the drill is the forward/reverse switch.

It's far to close to where your hand is placed so I often knocked it into reverse when I say often I mean every time I use the bloody drill.  Doesn't help the forward/reverse switch is so loose on his drill. It doesn't have a positive stop position so if you just look at the switch I recon I could move it with my mind.  He hasn't had the drill long sooo

I also thought about this today, kept the light off, and found it no longer warmed up! Interesting considering it warms up around the trigger/grip not near the light.

Regarding the comment about the loose forward/reverse switch on the PDC. . I found mine too loose when I first got it, and did changed it accidentally quite often, but recently I realised it has stiffened up quite a lot and is now much more acceptable (still a bit of a problem position/design wise though).

Happens to me all the time too on my T15 and the C12. Festool puts these switches too close to the trigger. Never had this problem with any other drill I owned.

I found its worse on the PDC.    I'm sure its closer on the PDC compared to the T15.  Also on my T15 it has a positive position on the PDC it doesn't making it worse.

I'll check next time and compare.
