Peeling Labels

Excellent feature Matt.  I'm sure we'll all keep them busy, as we have lots of ideas here at FOG.

Here's a request.  Can we get different colored latches for the systainers?  The labels are peeling from the boxes, after which they all look alike.
P.S. why are the labels all beginning to peel off so quickly?

Terp,

Both these questions have been covered elsewhere in this section of the forum recently - a quick search will locate the topics & furnish some answers.

I think in that thread we were ruminating about the need for these items, & it was mentioned that latches are avail. from the systainer manufacturere directly, in Germany.  The ideas for the labels reached the absurd level.  :D

It seems this is the forum to put these requests directly to Festool USA.  I just trying to get the ball rolling.  I know they are many ideas & questions throughout this Forum.  It seems they want us to bring those questions here directly.  I say good idea!
So how about it guys?  Can we see the colored latches available soon, here?

Matt,
I see you seperated my reply from "about this section" into it's own thread.  Will Christian O. & Shane H. be reading it?  I put it there thinking it applied to the thread you had started there.
Will all things posted there, for Festool USA to see & respond to, be removed to thier own thread?

It sort of seems out of context now.  We had a seperate thread about this that seemingly dissolved into fantasy labels.  We had some fun with it, but I was hoping Christian could address why the labels are peeling so soon out of the box.  One thing I did learn in the other thread was it seems to be everyones box labels.  Some of mine are doing better than others & some have nearly come off after less than a years time.

The latches had been mentioned there as a better way of identifying the boxes from across the shop.  We all had to wonder why the Festool catalog doesn't offer them.  I'm German & I'm anal & organized, I know, yet I figure the folks at Festool under stand this.  ;D  The boxes ain't cheap free boxes, yet the name Festool itself is clearly, & forever imbossed on top.  We all know it's Festool, but which one is the router, & which is the saw?  I'm willing to purchase the latches to accomplish this.  They need to be available at Festool USA, with the sandpaper & vacuum bags.

Anyway, will Christian & or Shane address this here & will also future posts to "about this section" be moved?

Terp,

Yes, we are reading. We are reading as often as possible. Often we are on the road though and it is tough to go to the forum every day. In case
we are missing something, feel free to send a PM.

Labels: Festool Germany is currently looking into improving the stickers. The question right now is this: Do we want sticker that hold on really
strong, or sticker that can be removed easily if somebody wants to remove them? The surface of the Systainer makes it difficult to find
stickers that hold on very well but are also easy to remove. But we are working on it.

Latches: They are on order and we will announce when they come in. It will be 8-10 weeks before they are in though.

Festool should take the approach Ridgid does.

They have the model number and picture on each case and it is not a cheap sticker that comes off and is integral to the case. I can tell what tool it is from across the room.

I just can not peel the Ridgid sticker off no matter how hard I try.

They also have the lighted plugs with the picture of the tool in the light so you can easily tell which cord is which if you have a ton of things plugged in on site.

And now an opposing view:

I really appreciate the removable sticker Festool uses, since I sometimes put a tool and its insert in a larger-than-standard Systainer, and something else in the original box.  That box would not look as good if I had to scratch and tear a permanent sticker off.

I'm usually fairly anal-retentive, but I really don't see the fuss about the stickers.  Get a label maker.  Label all 4 sides, if you want.  Add different color schnappers to color code your Systainers (coming soon).

That's great Christian.  What colours are you getting?

I moved it so that it would get more visibility.  That way, you get your own discussion which Festool can see and respond to.  The "About this section" discussion should be left for a general description of what that board is about, rather than specific topics.  I won't move all posts from the "About This Section" discussion.  If someone wants to comment on the idea for this section, or make general suggestions, go right ahead and post there.

Matthew,
I see now how you are doing this & thanks.  It works great, alot of great information.  Thanks Christian!
I understand about the labels, & prefer the color coded latches better anyway.  It's a much better way of identifying different boxes.
Thanks for the response Christian & since you're on the road, drive carefully.  ;)

I'm sure you think how anal we all are to discuss this, Christian.  The real problem is we all seem to have too many of Festools boxes in the shop now.  I'm sure you're thinking how nice that sounds.  ;D  We are all lost in a sea of systainers!  :D

Thanks for the great new tools too.

Those that really want the factory sticker to stay on can just apply a little spray adhesive on the box under the label.

I would vote for a label that is very permanently attached using a glue that is soluble using a readily available solvent (acetone, toluene, xylol, etc).  Then you'd have the best of both worlds.  I think the majority of people want their labels to stay on forever, but for the minority (like Ned), you could just publish a manner to remove them without causing physical damage to the systainer.

I concur. Personally, I want my labels to remain on the Systainer

I agree, if you want to peel it off use a heat gun or hair dryer to soften the adhesive.

Fine with me, as long as I can get the label off cleanly and not leave a patch of adhesive that won't come off and eventually becomes a dirty gray rectangle.

Goo Gone - works great!

The best I have found to get the sticky stuff off is WD 40 and it smells good to,doesn`t damage anything in the process. As for keeping the stickers on,go to Michaels ,the art store and pick up decoupage ..you know the clear stuff you paint over printed material to seal it on
