Sandy sucks

Been told my power is out at the house, oh well my whole house generator kicked in and they are happy with lights back on.

Here in the boatyard, darn dark and windy as all get out. Looks like I have lost two boats that were blocked up on the ground, the wind gusts are hitting 65-70,really not good

Well, Dave's been without power for a while (as usual) and a tree fell on the house across from his.  I'm sure Dave really appreciates that generator from the Tool Nut now.

Ken,

Did you ever find a generator?  I know you were looking pretty hard on Saturday.  If not I know a few guys who can hook you up  [tongue].

Daniel

Daniel,

No generator, but I did manage to get an inverter for my diesel van to power stuff. Last one available and had to pay double for it. I think they call it storm raped?

Ken,

Yeah, I got storm on the way home Saturday, Stopped off in Elizabeth for gas, had to go deep into town and just kept watching the prices go up as the stations ran out of fuel.

But those inverters do work well.  I have a 2200 watt inverter for when I work on site with not electric.  It hooks up directly to the battery.

Stay safe out there,

Daniel

Watching the new coverage this morning my thoughts go out to all those effected.

From that map that Willy posted I'm not so sure Pittsburghians will escape this...we'll see. Glad to be in western Ky right now and no longer in Philadelphia..

My mom used to call them "Pittsburglars".  She grew up there.  Sorry Brice...

Anyone in NJ survive this?

I'm guessing most don't have power if you did?

I'm reminded of a message from Verizon regarding potential service outages that was received by my son.

"Our Internet service is likely to be unavailable but for details you can hit us on the web."

Begin forwarded message (red emphasis is mine):

Verizon never fails to surprise me with the stupidity of their actions and statements.

We survived just w/o power.
I do see a generator in my near future though!

Is it cold, Bob?

It seems weird - when we have a hurricane, the victims sweat it out for days before they get their power back. There, you get to freeze???

Nah. Temps is the 50 to 60 range. It's a damp cold but we have
a wood burning stove insert that works well.
It was not the rain in this vicinity it was the winds Blowing down
the trees which in turn knocked out the power lines.
Closer to the coast the water and high tides were very damaging

Bob

We we're spared any really damage down in my area , only a few tree's uprooted and limbs down .  No loose of power or much in the way of flooding in my neighborhood . Hope everyone is safe and doing well .

Well it was fun, NOT, Costly yes, lost my car to 2 1/2 feet of water

House faired somewhat good lost some vinyl siding, and some garage roof shingles,

Highest recorded wind at 83 mph .

Can't get near the boatyard yet, although I have been told I lost three boats off the block and jack stands

Oh well Mother nature sure can be a  monster if she wants for sure

Sal

Sal,

Sorry about the stuff, but honestly glad to see you writing and that your family is ok.  Been thinking about you all day after your post last night.

Peter

Sal, so sorry to hear and see that damage.  Glad you and the family are alright though.

Things were somewhat uneventful in the little bubble that proved to be my house last night.  Lotsa friends over, some drinking and a lotta cooking kept us completely distracted.  No power outage, very little wind, etc.  When we did wander out (learned my lesson not to do this again) we escaped serious injury on about two occassions and saw what I can fittingly describe as "end of world stuff."  Trees flying through the air through live power lines, getting stuck on newly created dead end streets in the heat of the storm, the Hudson river growing another 5-15', etc.  It was quite the experience.  Stuff we're not used to up here.

Glad everyone's ok.

By "car" do you mean the rubber truck?  [eek]

Seth

Seth.  No my wife's Mercedes was the victim on this one. Rubber truck survived the hit OK.

Anybody consider that some members may have been devasted by this storm and cannot even post or have the inclination too so preoccupied with what they are dealing with?  We may yet hear down the road that some did not make it out of this as easily as the rest of us. [sad]

I'm keeping my fingers crossed a while longer.
